I am in need of a motor for my 1982 IH Cub Cadet 782. It had the Kohler Twin 17. She threw a rod straight through the block. I have been doing some research and found a replacement Kohler is around $3,000.00 I also found I could get a couple different engines in a kit that will fit right in the 782.
I know after researching the series I 17 H.P. Kohler engine surely someone on here has replaced or know of someone that has replaced their engine and I would appreciate some advice on what to do.
Thanks Again!
Joe Hester

Joe: I've had good luck so far with a Kohler Magnum 18 which is basically a bolt-in replacment for a KT17; I've not had such good luck with a Briggs & Stratton 16 HP twin flathead such as came on the 582. The drive shaft connections are different, though. In either case, the ignition needs to be converted for use with magneto vs. a coil. I find it easier to use an interposing relay to convert the absence of positive ignition voltage to a ground contact to "kill" the magneto.

One fellow on this forum replaced the KT17 with a B&S Vanguard, but he had to rework the drive mechanism.

Looking for a narrow frame mule drive upper half that has good pullies, needs to fit a 127. I only need the part of the mule drive that conatins the pullies for adjustment. I do not need the lower cage that goes in under the frame of the tractor.

Eric, The part with the pulleys is a mule drive. The long part, the mower deck attaches to, is a sub-frame.
