Bobby, that's a wonderful suggestion...
bit late now that I went to the trouble of fixing the one I got, and you're a distance away. LOL
Good excuse for a road trip.
I had fun tho'. I'd never opened up a transmission and was really excited about being able to fix it.
Dave, I am going to look into taking the shifter apart like you suggested. I have a welder so the hard part is finding time to fix it.

Thanks for the help.
Charles

Everyone out there have a great Memorial Day weekend. And remember those who gave you your freedom. ( It doesn't come from paper or laws )

- Peace -

Hi all
I hope this is the right place to post a problem I'm having with my tractor. It is a model 122 with the Kohler (K301)engine. Recently, it started dropping gas from the bottom of the carburator bowl. Given its age, I ordered a replacement gasket set and filler valve. I get it started, it runs and mows for a while and then dies as though it has no gas. If it sits for a few minutes, it will easily restart, run for about 2 - 3 minbutes and die off again. It has a new screen in the "filter bowl" and seems to get gas down to the bowl. Any suggestions would be most welcome as I have looked at everything I can think of. Thanks for your help

Jeremy, e-mail me. Address is in profile. I have an extra steering gear box sitting around and wont need it. If you still have the steering shaft and the parts, I think I might be able to help you.

Not sure what a "filler valve" is. Check your float and make sure it is at factory specs. IIR 11/64

Found a 123 and 124 today and brought them home. The 124 Runs good but the governor is to sensitive, The 123 Needs reassembly. All parts are there if i can find time to assemble it.

Carl,
If all else fails after doing carburetor work, check to make sure there isn't an exhaust leak. I had a similar problem about a month ago on my 129, it would run for a few minutes and quit. I would mess with the carburetor, it would restart, then die after a couple of minutes. I noticed that the muffler end cap had split, causing hot exhaust to shoot right at the carburetor. Can you say vapor lock? Ran fine after I replaced the muffler.

I have a question. Is the 48 1U deck original to the 123 cub cadet? My 123 has a 48 1U and the 124, 127, 147 all have a 48 2U with them. Thanks.

Bruce Nolte,
Ahh that's right! Now I remember.

Luther Ray,
Way to go. Another creeper and a hydraulic lift. You must be blessed.

Sure that isn't a bottle opener?? Let's give Kraig a headache.....

Very cool Charlie. But I'm thinking there are a few out there who don't know what a fob is. I don't want to say do hickey or weight.. kind of a "keeper" which says nothing to the unknowing.

I tried to take a picture of my fob. A stag's head. It was a birthday present long a go. But I must have had too much coffee. blurrrr.

Charles. It kept bugging me so I looked for a thread on here. Go to the vault and look up July 15 2004 1:53 pm (bottom of the page) theres pictures and everything, It's not exactly the way I remember it.

Ran into a little hitch in my exhaust plans. I stopped by an exhaust shop I used to work at bout 15 years ago. We used to do all kinds of custom work and had the biggest selection of every part I've ever seen so from past experience I figured they would have something for me. The smallest muffler they have won't work. Width is fine and length is close but the stubs are offset center...I need offset offset. I have new take off Harley mufflers and they are too long. Soooo...looks like I make one.
