Matt- I haven't been able to find any cheap enough, that is why I was wondering about having the new axle shafts machined down. And the only ones on flea bay are out of my range right now, as far as wheels.

Don, that would be the air filter cover, not a breather cover... That little hole would suck air and dust and whatever as a direct injection into the carb bypassing the air filter.

Would be an OK idea if there were a quick release cover or plug of some kind over the hole.

Kraig McConaughey "Keeper of the Photos"
You are correct.

From a CC newby: I have an opportunity to get a CC 123 with a tiller and a 48" deck. The guy is asking $750 for package in running condition. What do you guys think? (OBTW.... thanks for the forum!!)

Paul W - The appraisal office is closed today.

Donald - It's like this ... if you keep mis-spelling things how can anybody find any info doing a search ?
Same thing goes for wrong terminology too.

Wal-Mart pharmacy just about killed my mother with the wrong pills because they didn't read the doctor's prescription right.

That's why I preach and preach about grammar and spelling ...............

After reading the site rules.... "Asking if a certain amount for a tractor is worth buying it for is fine.".... I thought that would be an appropriate post. Any suggestions?

Donald Tanner,
Are you sure you have a nice clean filter under that cover? Sometimes a filter may look clean, but be dirty enough to restrict adequate air flow. Just an idea.

Jeff Baker: Ditto on the SEARCH! (71, 102, 122, 123 Wiring Diagram)

Thanks, again, Roland!

PAUL WHITE: Go For It! (and y'all come back, now, y'heah?)

Don-

If the tractor is that hard to start, you have some other problem. And like Kraig said, you're just letting dirt and crap bypass the air filter...

Paul White,
I know you want to know if you are getting a good buy or not, but, my suggestion, and rule of thumb is: WHAT IS IT WORTH TO YOU? It is impossible to put a value on other people's stuff. If you don't mind paying what the seller is asking, BUY IT! If you will later regret paying that price, DON'T buy it! In other words, if you want it, and will be happy with the cost, GO FOR IT and enjoy your new toys!

Paul W - What something is worth or , "is it a good price" is going to depend on the person's bank account and how bad he wants it. Prices vary widely across the country (and out) so we can't actually tell you if it's good or not.
I've paid 3 times more for a basket case than what other guys pay for one running.

Thanks for the replies.... I LOVE the older GT's, and I know that CC is a good one. I "need" to add one to my collection, and at the same time I'll get a bunch of use out of it. Doubt I'll offer $750, though.
Because I'm not as familiar with the older CC's, my main concern was whether this was even in the ballpark or not. I AM very capable of determining if a tractor is in decent condition. I think this one might be a good one to start with, AND it can till my garden! I have to make some room in the shed, first. Will try to sell a new Craftsman tiller that I was trying out.

KentuckyKen,
Beat ya to the draw! My post was faster than yours. LOL!

P.S. Hope ya get to feelin better!

Paul - I gave $600 for my first , a 122 in several boxes.
That rig will do what a shed full of Crapsmans can't do.

Marty - Ya only beats me to da draw cause I spoof reed myne twyce berfer postin.

Paul-

Like the guys say, it's a matter of what it's worth to you. I ALWAYS try to talk the money down. Also, if you were to buy all of the components separately the price ($750) would fit better but as a package I bet he will come down some. If I knew a couple of years ago what I know now I'd be a lot better off because now I know what to look for first. Another approach would be do nothing but leave him your number and a price you'd pay. I doubt he's going to sell it for that price anytime soon.

On another note, you will have a tractor that will last you a long time and may some day even become your kids.

You're doing the right thing selling the craftsman tiller. It's just a MTD in disguise.

Kentuck-

Did I spell "disguise" right?

Wayne, thanks. I had the luxury of trying two tillers recently... the Craftsman mentioned (yep, knew it was a rebadged MTD) and a 1974 Troy Bilt Horse. No comparison (DUH!!), so the Craftsman will hopefully find a new home. Will be even better if I can get the 123. We'll see!

Josh, it's probably a little too late to help you, but here's what I use to compress that clutch spring. And, if you use a roll pin punch you'll have a lot better luck getting those roll pins out.

Got the carb cleaned out on my 122 runs great now.

still cant figure out the sterring on my o and I am getting real fustrated becaus I keep scratching it @#$%$@& it is looking worse and worse which has inspired me to never have a restored cub or restore another cub I find a unrestored cub more attractive and you dont have to worry about scatching it so there will proably be no after pics of my 122 I might restor a quietline or 82 series becaus everything you have to work on it under sheet metel. Most of my o problems are beacaus the idiot that restored it did not replace worn out parts so everything needs fixed but he did an excellent job on the paint.
