This may be a stupid question, but does anyone know if the full oil level on the dipstick is below the O.D. of the front oil seal on a K321 engine? I need to replace this crankshaft seal and I don't want to drain the oil if I don't have to.

I have some concerns about the cylinder on a NF hydraulic system. Has anyone ever rebuilt one? And is there a kit offered for rebuilding one? I've been told by one source they can't, or weren't made to be rebuilt and another source says they can be rebuilt.

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Norm-

If the engine is standing straight up and level you shouldn't have a problem. If the oil came up that high the engine wouldn't need a oil splash. I don't see why you don't just drain it in a clean container then put it back when finished though.

Hey Guys, Since I made the repairs to the 169 I decided to put her to work today. Got the plug aerator out and weighted it down with about 275 lbs of concrete cylinders. I've run it about two hours so far and the tranny is dry; no leaks. Life is good. BTW, Art, I counted the fins on the cylinder and there are 13 on my tractor. If I can figure out how to post photo's I'll try a do that later today.

Mike Patterson - 2 things come to mind right away - exhaust valve sticking and Carb problems. Go back about a month and read about Donald Tanner's Carb problems with his Cub, or go to the FAQs and look up #20 and on Charlie's FAQs #1.

Either something a tiny bit of dirt, etc is floating in your Carb, and then is got stuck causing the engine to run horribly. Or possibly when the engine warms up the Exhaust Valve decides to start sticking.

I would make sure both of these are cleaned and adjusted correctly. Soak the carb in carb cleaner, re-assemble, get it set correctly, read all about this in the FAQs.

Remove the motor head, clean this all up, remove the exhaust valve and using the correct reamer clean it.

Well that was my quick thoughts but I think it turned into a long HydroHarry answer...

Will do Lewis.

Vincent, I have looked for MMO here in Ontario - I can't find it. I had one heck of a time finding Sea Foam. I have put that in the gas for the past couple months when I fill up the 5 gallon can. So that goes in my walk behind snow blower and my Kawasaki engine on my ATV. Anyone have any idea who would carry MMO in Canada? Have one auto store I have not tried yet, perhaps next weekend I can go there since it a holiday weekend and all this weekend.

If I run the MMO in the oil and the gas, I am going to assume lay off the Sea Foam for a while too so there isn't so much additives in the gas - right?

It is called marvel mistery oil just in case your looking for mmo. I have problems with abbreviations some times.

Mike, I would take the bowl off and see if gas is coming out when the float is down. Fixed a neighbors off topic mower that had the same symptoms, someone had changed a gas line and used non-fuel approved hose. Same black crud as you describe clogged the line. Replaced with fuel hose, cleaned carb and started it up. You may have been able to start it because the bowl finally filled up with fuel after sitting. As has been mentioned before this could be a gas cap vent problem, check by removing cap, see how long it will run.
