UH-HUH!
I'm sure that would work just fine in ONE situation, but NOT for the everyday machine.
I for one wouldn't condone doing it on any machine, course I don't care for solid ISO mounts and solid for teaser springs either.

It achieves the same spring rate and feel, and eliminates broken coils.

Ahhhhh, Tom I'm closer than you are but I'll let you bid in my place. I hear they have some nice property in Florida to sell also!

TOM - hehehe Over on the RPM forum they refer to tractors like that as "Southern Belle's".

I'm sure it'd make a REAL Fine Pulling tractor!

What a P.O.S.! And the price, (slack jawed) Aaaaaaaa. I always love to see how the PO's "fix" things.
Don "T", He!!, I would give more than a U.S. Grant for that thing.

Well, being from Florida....JUNK IS JUNK....this is at least the third time he has listed this( 29 days at a time) each time lowering it by 25.00.

Tom, if you wait long enough, it will be in your price range...

I have solved my excess play in the hydro shift linkage by replacing the nylon Control Cam plate pivot bush and adding a thin washer behind the circlip to take up slack at the plate. I also added spacer washers on the Control Drive Plate behind the circlip and replaced the trunnion springs. Now I'm just installing new joint balls for the hydro lever assembly and I should be ready to re-attach the rear-end/hydrostatic unit to the frame! Luckily my local machinery shop had the parts on the shelf.

I'll take photos before bolting everything together. Any advice on any other general maintenance before I reconnect rear-end/hydro to the frame? Thanks for the advice, danWI

Dan, if you have not already done so, now would be a great time to replace the Hy-Tran and filter. And while your at it if there has been any sign of leaking from the cork gasket between the hydrostatic pump and the rear differential now would be the time to replace that old cork gasket with a new gasket, preferably with a neoprene one. You'll likely have to fabricate the neoprene one. I believe Richard Christensen did a write up on this some years ago, it might even be in one of the FAQ's. If on the other hand there's no sign of leaking Hy-Tran don't mess with it.

Oh, and TIA for the photos.

KRAIG - re the cork gasket... Didn't Gerry Ide do a write-up on it a while ago, 1-1/2 to 2 yrs ago and MTD converted it to a rubber & cork gasket?

Cork is SUCH a terrible choice for a gasket material. Neoprene is much better, and I'm sure there's other gasket materials that would work great too. But I guess at the time Cork was considered O-K. So were leather lip seals, and my Super H still has a few of them left but not many since they're all getting replaced with new rubber lip seals as I dry up the leaks.

Question:
Were 149's ever equiped with an ELECTRIC lift?

No, 149's should have all come std. with hyd. lift.

Electric lift was an option on the other models (10 & 12hp hydros could also have hyd. lift installed as a factory option)

Steve,
Thanks.
I just got back from the St. Anne auction. Bought a box of parts and a K321. Met the p.o. and he claims everything came off his old 149. Included in the box of parts was an electric lift. . .

Ray-

That po might have the 147 and the 149 mixed up. The 147 came with electric lift.
