Terry, after a little more research, I believe that this style could be on the later Originals.

Since you guys are doing a little research, I've got one for you.
I purchased a couple of wheel weights, and discovered the markings are different from the usual weights.

These weights have a faint recessed circle with a square stamped in the circle.
A few inches to the right is another circle that is a little deeper, and has the "old style" IH emblem in raised letters.
These weights have the rust colored primer under what is left of the old yellow paint. It appears they have only been painted once.
When did the federal yellow come into play for IH? Was it in 55' when the lowboy was introduced?

Any ideas of the age of these, and what does the square represent?

I know the "normal" weights have an L stamped on them representing the Louisville, KY plant.

Marty,
The wheel weight you know of for your Cub Cadet were actually the same wheel weight used on the Farmall Cub tractors. IF I'm hearing you right you have both the "block" style IH and the "round" IHC logos on the weight? That sounds odd.

And I have to post this up here........

Kraig - I was hoping the ribbed one correct since it's on the best one (handle not bent) but I may have an extra correct one if I can't get them off. Been twisting and grunting but can't get em off for the life of me. Others I've had twist off w/o much trouble but not these! Anyway, thanks again for coming to the rescue.

Tom,
It wouldn't do any good for me to take any pics. My camera stinks on close-up pics.
Here is what the one circle looks like:

The other circle has a square stamped in it.
On the other side is the usual 351371 R1.

That's the Old IHC logo. That was offically replaced by the "Block" ih in the fourties. Did you say both are on the weights?

Tom,

If a circle with a square stamped in it is what you call the "block", then yes, both are on the weights. They are about four inches apart.

Tom,

Both logos are on some of the IH weights......seen them many times....

Steve,

Any idea as to the age of these weights? Did they come out before the cub cadet?

Came with my 1964 100........don't know anything else, but I have seen it more than once on weights....

I have a set of the "circle" IH wheel weights on the Plow Special as well. Must have been an old casting mold or something...

Anyone out there use a VW New Beetle for their IH Cub Cadet deck/parts hauler?

I'm out traveling for the salt mine this week and somehow wound-up with a one of these for a rental:

Sometimes the best part finds I find are when traveling. I'll stop at an old lawn mower dealer and have a look-see around. Today I found a 48 inch mowing deck and sub-frame from a 149 - price = $25.

In-spite of the Beetle's apparent tiny/small size, the deck and subframe fit with a few inches to spare...

Deck seems solid, spindles might need some attention. The sheet metal on the discharge chute is about at thick as any mowing deck I've ever seen. Apparently IH wasn't dialed-in to "lightweight" very well back when they designed these things - LOL!!!

Bill, nice!

My parents always had horses and occasionally they would sell some off. One time when they sold one of the Shetland Ponies, the people that bought it hauled it home in the back of a Volkswagen Beetle. They lead it through from the drivers side so it's head stuck out the passenger side window while it stood in the rear seat foot wells. They only lived a few minutes away. Sure wish I had a photo of it. Very funny sight to behold. This occurred back in the early 1970s.

Hey all, pulled the cam out of a k161 tonight and have a couple issues. First, the fine spring on the front is broken. Second, the piece that goes between the cam gear and the front of the block (bout inch or so long and notched) has pretty noticeable flat spots. Is it time for a new (used) cam? No experience with cams.

I was at Tractor Supply the other day & noticed a 5 gallon can of X-Treme Pure-Flo hydraulic fluid that substitutes for IHCase Hytran. Anyone know if this is an acceptable substitute?

Norm B.
It's your tractor, put whatever you want to take a chance on.
Sake viscosity does not mean same properties.

Norm,

There are a lot of oils out there that claim to meet the Case IH specification for HyTran. Many of them are good. Personally, I always am suspicious about using an oil that may meet a specification, but could be of an inferior quality.

Here is what we all know. HyTran works.

You can use the oil you wish, but if this were me buying oil for my tractor, I would buy HyTran.

Charlie & Brian,

Sounds good to me. Just wanted to know if anyone had any practical experience with this particular product. I've always used Hytran, scared to use anything else!

Terry Davis; That part is the lobe for the points push rod. the 2 notches fit on the weights this set-up was used on early Kohler engines before the ACR. It is possible to put the points lobe back on the cam 180 Deg off and it won't run.
