Welcome back KEN! Now we have to keep the young'ins locked up!

what kind of fluid should i use in the rearend of my original?

Well, I took the snowthrower off the 782 today. That, coupled with the upcoming boys state basketball tourney, almost guarantees another big snow.

Charlie, are you beginning to see any bare earth up there yet?

Can anyone tell me how I can make the mower deck from my 71 fit onto my brand spankin' new 105? Did IH make a conversion kit? Anybody done home modifications to make it work?

Hi all,
Hope the weekend is treating you well.
I'm looking for knowledge and advice.
I just brought my 128 back home to get it ready for summer mowing at the family place on the Ohio river.
The main reason I brought it back is the pto locked up at the end of the summer.
While loading it on the trailer I noticed a screw behind the governor that had backed its way out.
(Multiple questions)
What is the screw for? Can I just put it back in?
Is it going to be hard to fix? I'm not the greatest with engines, but I'm willing to try
Trying to upload my first ever pic of the screw in question.
Bear with me if I jack the pic post up.

Hopefully you got the image.
Thanks for any info you all can give.
The kohler manual I have on CD doesn't provide any info on this.

Scott, If I understand your question, you don't need anything. Just unbolt the mule drive from the 71 and bolt it to the 105 with the holes provided.

Charles - That bolt holds the gov in. Just tighten it up.

EDIT: You do still have the little flat piece that goes from the bolt to the gov assembly on there don't you ?

Ken,
Thanks for the quick reply.
the bolt was all the way out when I noticed it.
By that statement I mean no threads in the side of the engine but the washer and the smooth end of the bolt were still there.
So I'm not sure what you mean by the little flat piece.
I tried to edit another pic to get a better look.
But as far as I can see the bolt only holds something inside. Because outside there is only a washer.

I can get a better photo tomarrow if it will help.
Thanks,
Charles

tried resizing to get better view, not too successful HUH?

Charles - Okay my bad. I went back out to the 127 and with a good light and a towel to wipe it off better I seen that it wasn't like I thought it was the first time I looked.
I've got another K301 minus oil pan on the bottom shelf but I'd have to move to much heavy stuff to get to it. ie ... a 60 pound 10k volt transformer.
I've been getting pinched nerves in my back for the last 4 days so I'll pass on any further advice

Manual doesn't say much about it, just that it comes out in the governor removal steps.

Charles; That pin holds your governor gear to keep it on the shaft. When the pin is removed the governor can drop off the shaft and let the engine race wide open until it blows up and scatter parts all over the shop. BTDT Just tighten it up and start the engine and see if the governors work. If the gov. works you are good to go. If the gov. doesn't work it is the last thing to remove when disasembling engine.
Hope some of this makes sense.

Ken
the threads on the stop pin are on the outside of the block. I had that problem and I spun the engine backwards by hand and that will force the governor back against the block where it normally sits.I took the came cover plate off and used a wire to push it back in place on a 14K I have here also. Good luck with it , I you can get it in place and tighten the pin the governor will work right ,if not the engine will race and then will have to be replaced because the weights will be damaged.my .02

Since spelling is so important on here now (lately) I hate to post. Nobody likes there short cummings pointed out!

Don-
IF you quit posting I'm coming up there to get all of your cubs.

Keep up the good work man!

KENDELL - re: your post Sat. afternoon, No, actually it was WORSE. SON came over about Noon and the whole darn family drove into MADISON for a late lunch! At least we stayed around the edge of town.

Sorry about the unwanted e-mails to those of you who got one. Think I only had five regulars here in my e-mail directory. As Richard suggested, just delete ANY e-mail you get from me.

I sure would have thought my Norton anti-virus would have caught the little bug!

Thanks for the replies.
I was afraid it was something like that, holding in the governor.
It doesn't seem to want to go in by hand. It was out far enough I could see the smooth part after the threads.
So I take it I should try the turn engine in reverse and try to re-insert option.
Charles

Don T - Please don't stop posting because of my comments on spelling. I certainly didn't intend to offend you. I think there's a difference between honest mistakes and just not caring about spelling. You have too much knowledge to share, so keep it coming! And if incorrectly spelled words keep us from understanding something you write, you're a good sport about the teasing.

Besides, whenever I see a typo in your posting, I just assume it's the Canadian spelling!

I'm looking at some Deestone tri ribs for my Original. The ebay seller is calling them tube type tires. Do I have to run tubes with them?

Donald T. DON'T for even a minute think about stopping your posting. I had an English teacher long ago that used to say, "Never write so much to be understood. Write so that you may never be misunderstood." I am no member of the Correct English Language Police by a long shot and yet I've seen too many postings and even so-called professional writers make very common grammatical errors. I am NOT picking on any Forum member here or any other place however if these "spelling bees" want to get technical... then let's put it this way.... One should never use the phrases, "I've got..." or "I've gotten..", I'd gotten..." etc. A quick check in the dictionary will reveal that using have, had, and gotten as such is improper English grammar. An example... Incorrect usage: "I've gotten so many Cubs from that area." Correct usage; "I've found so many Cub within that area." Summing things up. Keep posting. It's been a long winter for a lot of us and sometimes we tend to feel the desire to pick on something or someone to relieve built up stress.

It is 41* outside right now. Fancy and I are going to work on the Keepsake 1650 to get it ready for Plow Day at Rockford next month. We broke down and bought the OEM Cub Cadet isomounts for the engine. A local NAPA store cross referenced the MOOG K5252 mounts to the NAPA part MRC18060 so I bought the NAPA kit and compared them to the OEM parts. I even compared the NAPA to the MOOG and even though with the NAPA I needed only one set instead of two MOOG kits I feel the OEM was a better fit for the update. I may try the NAPA MRC18060 kit on Fancy's 1650 since we are going to get it so that we can still use it before we overhaul the engine. We just need the frame rail modification done and then we can put everything back together again.
