Good thing the steering wheels don't come off Cub Cadets easily, they make for great grab bars. On the other hand, were I to ride on the trailer with you driving the tow vehicle one might need to remove the pan seat afterwards...

Never mind an NFO pan seat.

Dennis-

I tilled with a 128 for several seasons...creeper engaged and 1st gear was perfect. I never tilled sod with it that way, but the garden came out just fine.

as for tilling I also had very good results with my 1200 in first gear and creeper in low

Question:
When a 7hp cranks up, black smoke comes out for a minute, then it clears up. Could this be a lean fuel problem?

Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Marty,

Black smoke is a rich condition. If it is just at start up it is probably due to choking the engine to start it. This is causing a slightly rich condition. Shouldn't be a problem it it clears up right away.

Don:
Come into the States at Sarnia, Ontario/Port Huron ,Michigan, slide across to the west a little (middle of the mitten), we'll buy you a cuppa.. You could truck on north across the Big Mac bridge and high on west towards Art, Kraig, Charley and the Great Plains states.....

Question #2:
Is 600 miles too far to drive to buy a "O" in real good shape?

Wish I could

Marty:
Depends, you driving a hydro or gear drive Cub? Also - you going alone???

Marty,

If it's black smoke it's fuel relate and is running rich. I would run some MMO in the fuel and make sure the carb is adjusted per the Kohler manual. You may be running a little rich. Check the spark plug too. If it is really black it is running rich. Sounds like you may just need a little tuning or a tune up.

Tim asked; Why did you not like the spark plug over the exaust? I thought it was the best place for it..
Tim,
Its not that I really have a thought either way on where the plug is, I just noticed that it started easier and ran smoother centered vs over the exhaust. I'm running really tight on money right now so every penny counts. I stole the head off my injured WH, even re-used the head gasket. The only reason I replaced the carb bowl was I dropped it and cracked the JB Weld (repair from the PO). I haven't had a chance to run it other than a heat up and re-torque the head bolts. It's getting warmer here in mid MI, around freezing, so I cant justify the seat time to test it. Time will tell If I fix or replace the original head. or get a new one for the WH.

To correct info about the K 161 cylinder bore, the older engines did have a 2 and 7/8ths bore,{2.875"} later they went to 2 and 15/16ths {2.937"}same as the K 181. A little known Kohler factoid.IIRC, the smaller piston is nla, you need to bore to the larger bore diameter.

Jim,

That sucks that the small bore pistons are NLA. I just got a .010 over for my original a couple years ago. I guess I should have bought a couple more.

Oh, man, you guys ended the "Clutter Contest" before I posted my entry? I was too busy slaving away... oh wait... no, I was too busy getting my monthly therapeutic" massage. But I deserved it because I also had a dental appointment today ("Look, Ma, no cavities!"), and an epidural steroid injection in my neck today, too. Anyway, If I understand the rules, the winner gets his/her choice of cabs from Charlie's neatly arranged clutter, right? I guess it doesn't realy matter what the prize is, since I'm guessing Charlie is the judge!

My entry doesn't cover a large area, but there's enough "stuff" surrounding the two on-topic Cubs that it should cover a large area!

Who, in their right mind stores an electric stove in the garage? (Under the windows)

Hey Art, That tractor looks a lot happier than under the sheet where it is now. I need to get it out and run around the neighborhood once the weather straightens out.

Could you send me a high res copy? That's a nice picture.

I can not lay claim to the two clutter photos of cub storage, but I did pull my 1200 with deck, blower, tillar, and a non ih snow blade from one of theses two storage units in rockford, il
