Jerry, I have LOTS of photos of Dan's custom Cub Cadets. Lots have been posted as well. Do a forum search using the word "crawler" and you'll likely find a bunch of the photos.

Kraig, thanks for the info. Perhaps the original Kohler K241 died in my Cubbie, and someone replaced with an even older Kohler?

Hopefully changing the head gasket (it was leaking BAD - I could see exhaust puffing out the front ot the engine between the block and the hood) will cure the oil issues, because the engine seems to start and run like Jack the Bear with the new gasket. I'm still going to pull out that unused mechanical fuel pump and put a new gasket and cover on the engine.

I have a question for everyone... My 125 isn't charging the battery anymore. I assume the single wire on the starter generator is the output, and should vary in volts as the engine speeds up and slows down. It barely lights a testing light at full speed. If you had to guess, would you think that the starter generator is bad, and if it probably is, should I try to get it re-built, or try to buy a used one off the web?

Thanks for any input.
Kurt

Kurt S,

Probably time for a new set of brushes in the S/G. I'd start with that first.

Kurt S.-

It could be the regulator. One way to eliminate the regulator from the picture is to ground the field wire temporarily while the tractor is running so the regulator is bypassed. If the ammeter pegs on the charge side, the regulator is the problem. If not, it's probably the generator.

Hello guys, did i little work to the 129 refurb today and came up with a few questions ?? Can i use washer under the starter gen bracket?

Kraig I like the way you relocated that sparky thing that makes Cub Cadets go to the side of the carb. That would work here in New England as long as the wind would stop blowing upwards and all over. Gotta love those end of June northeastas!

UHhhh... Porter, I don't get it?? And isn't it spelled Northeastahs ??? rofl...

Kendell;

Down there....?
And it ain't "pop-soda";it's "pop-Coke"..,Coke being generic for ANY soft drink 'cept orange Crush!LOL!

Just to keep it on topic!

Got a chance to do some painting today. I painted most of the tins, then took on the chassis. So far so good, only one run, but there are some thin areas and I'm out of paint and thinner. Still gotta do the white stuff and lay down another coat, so I'll be off to TSC for more paint.

I picked up the front end and set her on her haunches to paint the underside, then put her down, jacked her up and pulled the wheels off to do the topside. I might run the wheels and hood over to my neighbor, who has a heavy duty sandblaster.

Here's what I got so far:

Don T. I'd like to see you grind off the paint on the block and back of S/G mount. Those are a form of lock washers which may help, but with them in place I don't think you can get as solid a mounting as you will with casting-to-casting. If the screw holes and bolt threads are clean enough, I think you will have enough of a circuit to support the ignition system. Dont forget to clean away the paint from where the ground cable will connect, don't think those washers will handle the current if between a painted mount and cable. (We're talking maybe 14 amps here!) JMHO
