What type of fluid goes in the transmission of a 122? The operators manual says IH Hy-Tran or 30w, and the dealer says to use 80w-90.........
I drained and replaced the seals so now I want to fill with proper fluid.

Tom

Tom, go with either Hy-Tran or 30wt oil. 80 or 90 wt oil is too thick.

now that everything is off, and partly sanded, I still need to finish. How else can i get off the remaining paint, there is a lot and i don't own a sand blaster either.

This is the extended crank in an 86. The model also has a different starter generator mounting bracket than other models, to move the S/G forward to lineup with the pulley on the crank

Paul-

Thanks for those pics. I've heard a little about the special engine for the 86 but by not having one I never paid that much attention. That crank really sticks out there. I also remember hearing about the special mounting bracket for the s/g. If I do get this tractor and the seller has the 8hp I think it would only be right to get it back in action because of the rarity. I'll know pretty soon whether I get it or not.

what kind of paint should i use to do the cub cadet? The local hardware store has john deere yellow and sunburst yellow rustoleum. Any other types i should look for.

At the risk of getting smacked by the 'Correct Police'..

...People have used 'School bus yellow'. If you have a Tractor Supply co within range they have spray cans of Cub yellow and white (Valspar?). Also look above at the sponsor listings, at least one sells Cub paint. (C.C.Specialties)

Brandon/Allen-

The Valspar "Cub Cadet Yellow" is the orange-yellow from the 2000 series and cyclops tractors and is not the same as the older yellow at all. CaseIH, Cub Cadet, and auto paint retailers will all be able to get you the correct colors...there is paint color info in the FAQ.

Brandon- I used some of that Valspar paint from Tractor Supply to paint a spindle, and It'll stand out if part of the tractor is still in original paint, plus it scratches/wears easily from wrenches ect. I believe some one painted the fenders of my tractor with the stuff, and the hood and wheels with some Ace "Antique White"- (close match from the tractors w/ real paint I've seen here) One day I'm gonna do a real restoration...
