Look what followed me home the other day:

I decided to go for the junker 1650 I mentioned last week, to strip it for the hydraulics and the hydro unit to add to my 129. Its in pretty rough shape, though the seller claims the hydraulics work fine, and it was a running tractor before he sold the motor. I see no obvious leaks, so I hope he was truthful.

Is there any difference between the front (non electric) PTO clutches? Visualy the two versions seem to differ with different style tension spring and one having 6 raised metal posts on the front. It look like they both mount on a 1" shaft. Can one correctly assembled clutch be substituted for the other?

With regards to steering problems, the lightly ribbed flotation tires used for mowing are just about the worst thing you can have when pushing a plow or snowblower, even with all the weight.I've got 100 lbs of wheel weights, chains, plus my 300+ lb butt for extra ballast, and using appropriate body english, I'm usually able to keep at least some traction in most situations. My main problem seems to be that I have a lot of difficulty making anything but the most gradual direction changes on the white stuff using the mowing slicks.

I've been thinking about setting up a spare set of narrow rimmed front wheels with either tri-ribs or small ag tires, which should dig in a little better and get a better bite than what I have on there now for mowing.

James:
Did you notice Myron's post from earlier today? It outlines the THREE types of PTO clutches. As far as using early vs late, the release button is going to need to match the button on the nose of the clutch, which AFAIK, means that the type with the brake is going to be different. You can check the parts lookup (link at top of the page) to see the difference in part numbers for the three clutches..

I have just purchased another IH cadet. We have a 128 my father in law purchased while an employee at IH in the Memphis TN plant(Gear Driven) This one is a model 1450 with lights and Hyd drive.Only has 242 hours on her and the lady kept it in the gargage for years after her husband died.Unbelievable shape. We also have another cub but is a later model with hyd drive. It has a dump lever to hold down if you push the mower. The 1450 "does not" have the dump valve handle on the drivers right side and the guy at IH said some later models did not use the handle dump. Is he correct? Will it hurt it to push it for short distances if necessary?

THANKS in advance

Jerry

Kendal thanks I did go back and read Myron's post and compared the parts look up "big difference" thanks. I hadn't realized until I saw the parts look up that they added parts on the front of the later model PTO clutchs.

Jerry...Your 1450 has the automatic valves. They bleed off on their own. You can push or tow it short distances as long as you take it slow.

I found something real unusual today. I have a bunch of 70/100 grille castings, and these two have the same casting number, but are obviously very different. What's going on here?

Hi all, Having a great season so far with my 782 keeping up with mowing and our newborn babygirl I sent the tractor out this year for the 25 year go over oil and tune. after 135.00 It runs great and the top 20 annoyances are no more. thanks village power of berlin mass. Anyway tonight the tractor would sputter and die when mowing down hill, Turned out to be the seat activated kill switch. either its bad or i need to reposition or add body weight. I bypassed the switch an everything is great finished the lawn with the lights on, sweet. Then a lot of smoke and a little FIRE!
Must See photo.

A flashlight revieled possible mouse tails, fur and leaves packed in around the cylinder cooling fins. I have blown out suspected nests before but never an incineration like this!
Has anyone had this problem? should I decon? how do I get all that stuff out of there? did the clog cause excess heat(i'm sure)or is my engine running too lean (maybe) Thanks for listening John

ps thanks again for all the help with the haban blower during our last winter storm. a backup blower is in the barn with a double overhaul in the works
