Oh my! Those perfect OEM rims!

Remember? "Don't want to undo something cuz turned out unhappy."

Now you realize if they turn out OK, you will have to spend more $$$$ on wider tires?!

Seems like a lot of work & $$$$ to me for a little more width. Just my 2 cents.

Like Charlie said; Extreme Motorworks could have sent you some already fixed, and you could have kept those OEM rims OEM. Just our 2 cents.

Marty -

Extreme Prices are Fair, and believe me, I would Much Rather Punch a few keys and have them delivered to my front door in a few days then to "Work" half a day on Hack Rims, But I've Got more Tools and time than I have Brains or $........ LoL

OEM 7" Rims, vs Hack job 9" rims, Hmmmmm,,,,

Well I'm Definitely gonna put'em to Good use!
And Yes you are cOrrect, That's Only <font size="+2">IF They turn out "ok"</font>

Jason,

You will need the $$$ you saved doing them yourself to buy those wider tires!

CORRECT POLICE......

It's not like 8.50 rims are rare, or special......if the guy wants them widened........WHO CARES?!?!?!?!?

Let it go....restore them 100% if you want....but if Jason wants widened 8.50's with 10.50 AG's on his 149......Fine!!!!

It's only a GT.....

Marty -

I guess my thought process went like this!!!

I have 149 w/ 8.5's and turfs

Now ONLY if I had "Another set of 8.5's / or Hacked 9" for free" then All I would have to purchase is the AG's then voilà I've got 2 Sets!!!!!

Yes I could have used 7" rims but I didn't and don't <font size="+2">EVER</font> want 7" rims on the 149,,,,

So just seemed like a No Brainer to Me,

Now that's something I don't see every day! Very nice workmanship on the custom rims Jason! Way beyond my skill! Boy oh boy, are those gonna turn out nice!

I enjoyed everyone's opinion on which IH Cub Cadet has the best looks. Some very nice choices, but I like them all. Though, I'm considering the model 125 now as a nice looking garden tractor. The deep blue original stickers, and the dash along with the steering wheel on the model 125 has got to be at the all-time top IH Cub Cadet "Nicest Ever" !

Today, pride was taken in cleaning up my 125. I clean all hardware, and reassemble with a dab of anti seize. The Nelson muffler was sand blasted and painted silver, along with the grill. I just cant rush the fun in this project. Gonna be a nice picture day here at the most exciting, and friendly IH Cub Cadet forum on the net! Thank you Charlie!!!

Nice work Jason on those rims! Again, I say that this stuff should be documented in a restoration thread so that it can be easily found by anyone searching for info on restoring a particular CC tractor. Great welds and fabrication. That is gonna look wicked with a beefy set of AG's on that 149.

I really have a tough time picking a favorite looking cub. I like every IH model for various reasons and even some of the CCC models as well. I was never a big fan of the z front Cubs until I bought one for my firstborn. Now it is one of my favorites in the stable. I don't like the Z as much as a 100 or even a 1x2 front casting but it has grown on me a bunch in the last 5 years. What I like about the 1x4,5 series is the attention to detail. By this point IH knew they had a cash cow and so they pulled out all the stops: steering wheel, blue dash panel, white seat with blue trim, blue stripes, heavy gauge metal on everything, tough yet refined. Great machine. I've always been a sucker for the '82 series Cubs because of the similarities to the '86 series IH tractors (red or yellow). I'm planning on purchasing a 1x7 series real soon and I really like the hood and headlight bezel design of that tractor. The restoration of the Chief (Dad's 149) Gave me a real liking for not only the looks of that series but also the combination of simplicity, durability, and yet advanced creature comforts. I never cared for the QL series that much either but as I've spent more time around them, they've grown on me too! I've always like the 70/100 series tractors and the 100 is probably still my favorite and the Original, well it started it all!

I guess in short--I NEVER MET A CUB THAT I DIDNT END UP LIKING!

I think the variety and ribbing back and forth about which model is better makes this forum a better place. I'll see one of the tractors that you guys have built and I'm in love--I gotta get or build me one!

Jason - well I'm glad there were several posts discussing Ag tires. I wanted you to have this info before you make the jump. I'm especially glad Jeremiah posted about his experience since that was what I found as well. As he said it probably doesn't hurt the grass but it does make it more difficult to walk on. I remember seeing a slope in your yard so you might actually benefit with ags since the turfs do tend to spin in certain slope situations.

Now, your wheel work looks terrific and I'm glad you showed it off. And you benefited from having the 1250 parts unit by using those wheels, so you'll actually have the set with ags and the original set with turfs.

I was really hoping you'd see by now that you need to get at least one if not 2 or 3 more tractors. I know you get snow in Ohio so you really need to get one with a thrower and a spare with a blade on it. This way you'll have 3 units. You like to work on them and enjoy so many things about them, you can be working on at least one in what ever season you aren't using it. You really just gotta get more units.

I mentioned the Correct Police are always lurking but didn't say much else. They are mostly just involved in discussions of restored units, but if you need to find out what was original to a unit they will certainly let you know.

Well, it seems the discussions kind of lead into what is/are the favorite Cub model. And that is a really hard question for me to answer. It's easier to say I've always liked them all, but some not as much as others. I'm generally more of a wide frame guy. The 1450 was my first unit and I always like the Quiet Lines. The 1x9 series is my preferred wide frame, but then I've never had an 82 series either and I've always kind of wondered. I do hear alot of good things about them. And when it comes to round fender units well my favorite has to be the 100. I've posted this pic a couple times but here it is again. It's my son's unit and there's just something about it that says "YES!!!!!" and I really think you should start looking for one.

I'm sorry if I confused anyone by my posts.

No, I am not the correct police.

No, Jason can do whatever he wants with his tractors, they are his, not mine, nor anyone else.

The last time I checked, they are not making any more of these fine tractors. They are not plentiful here in NC, and when you do see one they are expen$ive!
Try paying $800-$1200 bucks for a plain tractor with no goodies on it!
They may be giving these away where some of you guys are, but not around here.

I thought this was an open forum where anyone was allowed to say their "2 cents" or give advice. Am I wrong??

I like to have fun and pick at people from time to time. Jason has given some life to this forum, and I am trying to participate too.

I love ALL cub cadets and enjoy talking about them. That's why I joined this forum.

Again, I am sorry if I offended anyone. I did not intend to, I just like to pick and have fun.

Marty -

They are Not Giving them Away Up Here, but they are Much Cheaper and much more plentiful seems like here in the Midwest. My 149 In Working Condition w/ 44a in Good working condition was 5 Bills,,, and that's "ABOUT" average here. Some cheaper w/ more Goodies, some a little More!
I Understand a lot of the OEM stuff is Hard to come by, or Totally Through the roof prices if you do find those hard to come by Parts! For my situation just seemed the thing to do! Anyway No Hard Feelings at ALL Brother, It is kinda scary posting sometimes wondering how it will go over, Especially "ME" being an IH infant, heck I'm 47 and I've Never Broke Ground w/ Plow!!!!!
Anyway a good dose of constructive criticism is "Always" a good thing!!!!

Oh Yeah Also! When I take my Pan to upholstery shop, I'm Gonna have THIS:

To Show'em Exactly what it "SHOULD" look Like when they get Done!

Jason-
Nice job on the rims. I've done it on a pair of big tractor rims. You just made use of a common part. No worries....

I was wondering the same, Frank. Well Jason, there are many good parts left on that Quiet line. The serial identification tag should be made note of. I love this series quite a lot! The last of the "true" IH Cub Cadets, and the beginning of the enclosed engine compartment. Even the aluminum upper grill/headlamp housing can be repaired.

On another note, I discovered that the Rust-Oleum Appliance Epoxy 7882 Almond color is a very, very nice choice for painting the front rims on my 125. The paint is not "snow white" as the early garden tractor models were, but just a slight shade darker. The front rims on my 125 were in nice condition, and by that I mean that there were no deep rust pitting, or paint bubbling, nor rust for that matter. The paint was faded, and thin. I took a fine grade scotch brite pad to them, and cleaned with paint thinner and clean rags. I'm very happy with the results! Just painting bits and pieces in need of paint. Also, I squeezed the c-channel back together and now the front axle is factory tight again! I did replace the front axle pivot pin with a pin barley worn. The original pin was worn pretty good, and shinned like chrome. I also added some front rim shims that were missing. I'm now thinking on removing the entire wire harness to go through it all, and wire the correct light switch in.
