Nate

Weather it's a pulling Tractor, a Large Pulling tractor, or an alien spacecraft, it Is as Hydro Stated, made to Resemble a 169! Which in MY book is worthy of this Thread! If nothing else, To atleast spark conversation regarding appearance and similarities as far as color scheme and the fact that it's a Tractor, And a Super CooL Awesome Tractor at That! And one of the BIGGEST Reasons it's so super cooL IS Because it was Built to Resemble a 169!!!!!!

I LOVE The pic!

I'm Glad you Posted it, And I'm especially glad you posted in the IH Cub Cadet garden tractors thread,,,,

See, Your Super CooL pic has striked up all kinds of comments, and I'm sure there will be more to come!!!

By the looks of that sweet full size puller. It appears it is a 169D!

Didn't you all know... That's what 169's are best used for. Stripping out and turning into a dedicated pulling tractor!

Pullers Rule!

Hydro -

I'd like to start off by saying I have nothing but the utmost respect for you here on this forum! As far as I've ever read back through the archives you have always been there! Even back in the 98 era you were having conversations with members "Kenneth Updike" and Countless others talking about Fine tuning the Kohlers, The Crawlers, and anything and Everything IH cadet Related. I Know I get Ummm well a little excited and probably out of line at times, but please in no way ever think that I am NOT 100% Thankful Grateful and Appreciative of Everything You Charlie Kraig Brian and Countless others, have contributed to this site!

Literally I am in Awe at the Knowledge here! You guys have Corrected Me, Advised Me, and Helped me in more ways than I could ever Explain.

So If I've come across at times as sour foul pretentious or in any other offending manner then I would like to submit my formal Apology here and now.

Ok So now, where was we? Oh yeah, the 149!

YES, Cutting or Mowing Grass and the occasional "trailer" well Cart towing for now on!!!!!!!

Brakes - during initial refurb, after freeing up the Siezed Pivot and disassembling brakes I found 1/8"-3/16" of material on pads. Figured I could live w/ that so I didn't re-make the pads. I Did find springs to keep pads off rotors and did adjust the Brakes and Actually had them working. I don't know if they were actually capable of holding back 100ft Lbs per wheel via the service manual, but they would bring 149 to a Halt when brake pedal was engaged. Now When Trailer Drug Cub downhill about 2 months after refurb I hadn't Re-Adjusted brakes since initial setup. So I'm assuming no re-Adjustment for 2months along w/ weight of trailer together caused Accident. Since the Rear/Hydro swap I've Set up and adjusted brakes Again but seems like they need adjustment often or atleast again soon after initial setup. ScratchHead????

Ok ummm, oh yeah! Bent hydro lift handle!!!!

Well just since I read ur post I've been Wondering the Same Thing????
During Refurb the Dash Tower never came off. Lift lever Worked soooooo, I never Fooled w/ it. And Didn't even know it was Bent!!!!!

There are Threads under Q-Ball and you just now got me so Curious I tore gas tank off to have a look see,,,,,

"I" think AG's look Bad A$$ and I'm gonna Get Some!!! Might have to relearn how to drive them with hydro, might tear yard to shreds, might fall over dead tomorrow, but I'll fall over Dead w/ Bad Boy AG's on the 149!!!!

Smile face smile face angle wings!!!!

Ok Next,,, Oh!!!! The Correct pOlice!

Ok One More to Go!

Only as strong as Weakest Link!!! Or Pin, or Roll Pin, or Spiral wound Roll Pin!!!

Well You ALL pretty much Know me by Now, When I Break it, I Fix It!!!!!

I Love you Hydro!

Thanks Again Every One

Oh yeah and one other Thing since I've got a little momentum Goin,,,,

Man You guys Go Easy on Charlie! I Know he is Held to a Higher Standard than most of us Here, but Geez I assume he is Human with Feelings!

Jason W, That's why some scoff at having a brake/s on a hydro driven unit. "What's the need for that?" they claim! It's nice to be able to stop the tractor by foot as well as in transportation.

I like the Tru Powers, but really prefer the Firestone Flotation 10.5 x 23 x 12 tire size!

Uhmm, yes. Those c-clip pins in there are not fun. A not so good idea that followed through to our Quiet Line models, and also ended there. You want the clamp-on style, found in the 82 Series, and Charlie has them!

On another note, gonna get back to the 125 in the morning. Hoping to get a lot done, and back on all fours again!

Hey guys, picked up a Cub 100 that had been stored for "awhile".. years. I was told that it did run, "but smoked".
New gas, cleaned points and it fired right up. Seems to run swell- however, owner was right it smokes- a lot.

QUESTION: How do you tell if it's Rings or Valves?
It does not smoke when first started, but then pumps fairly heavy blue smoke, a few seconds after its running.
Seems to me it might be worn or broken ring?
Am I off track?

It is a 10HP and painted black so I assume it's a reman.

Harry,

I will have to side with others here, ag's and mowing do work well together. That being said, I've used Cub Cadets for 40 years with turf's or turfs and chains when needed (pushing snow or plowing the garden). However, in the Spring of 2014, I purchased a 1650 from a buddy of mine. It came with a set of Ag's with 55lb weights in them. I pulled the weights, but left the ag's in for the '14 mowing season. I also received the original Goodyear Softrac Terra Tires, and put them in the corner of the garage. When winter came, I pulled the Ag's and put the turfs, chains and weights for snowthrower duty. Last year the 1650 had most of the summer off due to PTO issues. I've got everything back in working order, and come Spring of this year, I had a a few gardens to work, and a few were in virgin ground. I set the 1650 up with the ag's weights and Brinly 12" Plow. I set the 1450 up with the #2 Tiller and the Goodyear Turfs.

All season, I've been using the 1650 for mowing duty, besides plow duty. It still has the ag's and weights on it. I have several places in the lawns that I take care of, where with turf tires I get spinning, which damages the grass. With the ag's I just keep moving without a spin. Also, in soft areas, the ag's seem much happier in these areas than the turfs. Also, on hills or inclines (like a roadside, or a ditch) the tractor fees much less "nervous" in these areas. I'm sure the extra 110lb in the wheels also helps. So I will have to respectfully agree to disagree...... as for the correct police...... well..... I need mine to do the job I need them to... and if that means I need to run "non correct" tires... then so be it..... if everyone on here had to worry about the correct police.... this would be a very quiet place........

Good post, Scott.
thumbsup.gif

Ag tires do help on inclines, near ditches, and just generally help you feel like you're running a tractor instead of a lawnmower. The only issue I have with using them on my lawn is that I find in my eastern North Carolina soil, which is a mixture of sand and clay (more sand than clay), the ribs on the ags "leave their mark" on my lawn. Not so you can see it from a drive-by, but you can certainly feel it as you walk the lawn in a pair of mocassins. It probably doesn't hurt the lawn, as you and Shultzie attest, but I personally don't like the ag's effect as I walk my property. I took them off my 149, after enjoying their use immensely --that is to say, they are a blast to use, I was simply troubled by the impression the ribs left in MY lawn.

Jason: Your experience may be more like Shultzie's and Scott's than mine. I would encourage you to try the Ag tires on your 149. I'm only saying that one size (or tire) does not fit all. And heck, I still have the Ags, and hope to use them for plowing one day.

As an aside: I enjoy your posts. After several years of excellent service, I have decided I "lucked out" buying a very used, but serviceable, CC 149. They are a great tractor, one of the best of the bunch. (Although, I do think the 125 may look a bit better, and the 100 has been voted best looking of all-time.)
smile.gif

(I know, the 1x6/7 has something to offer, and the '82 series was well intentioned, even the Quiet-Lines are awesome when well restored (or preserved); but, like Jeff Baker, I'm a 1x8/9 kind of guy.
Note: I'm only able to say that after my 149 has proven itself to me. If I had come up on another model/series, I might well be singing its praises instead.
[Notice: I'm not crowing about the attributes of my 782.])

The 82 series was well intentioned??! There is a reason they replaced the QL and 1x8/1x9 series.

More power, more torque, bigger mower decks, bigger implements, more options...

I happy to absolutely LOVE my 128, but it doesn't hold a candle to what my 782 and 2072 can do.

I run Ags on every tractor. I depends on the type of lawn your cutting. Lots of trees and tight turns, Ags might tear a bit. But my lawn is a fairly open 2ac. So there is zero tear-up. In fact when I mow my neighbors manicured lawn for him, I climb up off camber hills his JD with Turfs can only go down...

By the way, I do it in half the time cause my 60" is 18" wider and I can now faster.

Well intentioned... Boy that hit a nerve.

I Agree w/ Jeremiah C.
125 is "GOOD Looking" Tractor!!!!

I agree, ag tires do look better. Get you some, so that "garden tractor" will look like a tractor!

By the way, we pick on Charlie because he is ALWAYS hauling home some cub cadets along with all kinds of IH "goodies."
Those cub cadets must grow like weeds where he lives.
I would swear he can smell them like a hound dog!
It makes all of us so darn jealous.
We only pick on people we like, so we really like good ol' Charlie.

After all, he is always willing to help us, along with supplying us with parts whether we need them in a hurry or not.
You can count on Charlie being there for you when you need him. Parts, advice, help, etc., he's there!

But don't forget, he can pick back pretty dog gone good!
He even has his picture in the imogee section above. Here he is:
animatedihbear.gif

OK guys,
If you want a lot of cub seat time, mow with those cadets.
I prefer to mow quickly, so I can work on restoring my cubs and the implements that go on them. Ask Gerry Ide what you need to mow with!
wink.gif

My preferred seat time is when I am plowing with my "git-r-done" 128. Look Ma, no wheel weights needed!

I agree, the 100 is the best looking cub cadet. I just haven't fixed mine up yet.
I do have one of my second best looking tractors fixed up.
