Luther Ray Hinds (Lhinds) -

i think i tried the spring in every hole, but i will try the last one again.

i realize fuel starvation could cause this, and i will check fuel flow and carb again, but i would expect it to happen under a heavy load, not just come out of nowhere.
fuel starvation would explain the slow stall.

my stalling problem in my 128, K301A.

it just occurred to me, maybe it is fuel starvation, not the gov.

fuel system is just tank - wire mesh fuel shut off - hose - inline filter(in my case) - hose - carb.

if the wire mesh broke off, rust scale broke off from tank, covered fuel outlet, engine would slowly stall. after stall, pressure releases, scale floats off, engine starts.
gov hunts when scale blocks half of outlet.

does this sound possible? would cleaning/replacing the tank and shutoff be a good idea?

Hello everyone. I have a question about the choke pull knob on an Original. Is the correct style knob the same as a 70/100, or did they have a different style knob. I have two Originals, but they both have had replacement chokes on them. I want to put the correct style choke back on it.

I'm planning on going to RPRU on Friday. Hope to meet some of the guys from the forum.

Hello everyone,

Last night I installed a creeper assby on my 124 cub. Now the creeper is leaking oil out the front seal. Does anyone have a parts break down or instructions on how to replace the creeper front seal? I know now I should have replace it before I installed it on my cub.

Thanks

frank snerd (Fsnerd) I have a 128 that did the same thing when I first got it, the exhaust valve was sticking open when it got hot, under almost the same conditions as yours, tall or heavy grass. (hay)
In your last video at about 17 sec., there is an exhaust flash as it dies (I had to watch it several times to see it), That may indicate the sparkplug firing with the valve open.
My cure at the time was a new exhaust valve, then 'Marvel Mystery Oil', Charlie will say 'Cerma' sp?
Almost 20 years of abuse and many hours it has just started to do it again under heavy load, quit then restart almost immediately.
I know what causes mine, I suspect it is the same for yours.
Also, a lean carb setting will heat it up causing the problem.

Don T.,
Will you post a picture or two of the hood latches on your 149 for me. I want to put them on my 129 but don't have a clue as to where they hook to on either side. Thanks in advance.

Frank,
Yes there could be more than one issue causing the problems.

Looking closer at the gov to throttle cable linkage, it looks like there might be too much slack. The spring appears to be correct/ok (approx 25 coils),but it should be just taunt between the gov arm and throttle linkage at lowest throttle setting. There appears to be 1/4 to 3/8 of slack in your set up, the spring appears loose/slacking. This will make the spring act as if it is weak, thus not pulling on the gov arm hard enough. This would cause loss of power under heavy engine load. My 127 has the original (rusty) spring and it works fine.

Your video of mowing tall grass seems to suggest a fuel supply problem or loss of compression (sticking exhaust valve) or the gov not creating WOT. Limited fuel supply would act this way, the carb bowl is not being replentished fast enough and runs out of fuel.

Jim

as always, thanks for all the great suggestions on my 128 stalling problem, i will try them all.

it does not stall in wet heavy grass any more often then short dry grass. it does not appear to be connected to overheating or overloading. it stalls if it runs at idle for 20 minutes, too.

sticking exhaust valve. i paid a guy to re-seat the valves. he has done other work for me and i trust him enough to believe if i needed a new exhaust valve, he would have noticed.if all else fails, i will replace the exhaust valve.

slack gov spring . i do not recall right now how much slack there is in the spring, but i will check and adjust if necessary.
the gov seems to work when needed.

maybe i will remove the hood and mount the cam corder on the engine to see if the filter runs out of gas or the gov does not go to WOT.
give the neighbors one more reason to wonder about me.

Frank I'd be careful if you mount the camcorder to the engine it'll probably cook the camcorder but it would be fun to watch. Sounds like it's stalling when it gets hot?

Chris the parts lookup at the top of the page will show you the breakdown for the creeper. Also the sponsors at the top of the page will have parts available.

Good morning, Does anyone have any experience with rebuilding the deck spindles on a cast end deck from a 70/100? I assume they are rebuildable. I have seen spindle bearings at CC Specialties, but I wasn't sure what deck they are for. Do all the IH decks use the same bearing?
I was also wondering if the choke pull knob is the same style on the Original as it is on the 70/100. I have two Originals, but they have both had replacement chokes put on. I want to put the correct style back on the one I'm going to restore.
Thanks, and hope to meet some of you at RPRU.

Jeremy yes they are serviceable. I found it easier to take the cast iron ends off to service them. I pulled the bearing and got the #'s off them to re-order the right ones. Made in USA bearings will last much longer than the cheapo foreign ones.

Mike Frade for a project like that and a fellow cubber, I will take it upon myself to assess the capabilities of the crew first before they lay a hand on that. I will let you know.

They actually claim to do a lot of restorations so lucky me

i recently bought a 1250 cadet & was wondering why the front axel has such a radical caster angle to it i have seen tri-cycle tractors with the same principle. i have heard many reasons for it thru people who i,ve asked. but there must be some xperts in this group any feedback would be appreciated
thx

Ronald C.-

The tractor steers much easier that way. That's really the only reason I can think of.

good morning everyone i am new to this so please bear with me.I have a question about my 1486-50 and a 1730 the 1486 was my main mower until moter problems so my 1730 runs but has no deck can I make deck off a horiz. machine like the 1486 work on a vert. like the 1730 they are both man. lift mowers .the 1730 also has a hydro. problem i will have to fix as well. thanks in advance to all.

Frank,
Thanks! It's good to be past the heavy expensive work and dinking around with this sort of thing.

adrian a gitch (Agitch) -

only when hot, but not as soon as it gets hot. sometimes it runs a lot longer then other times.

i am serious about the camcorder, but i realize it would be needed to be mounted away from the engine.
if the camcorder showed the filter running out of gas just before the stall, i would know it was fuel starvation.
