Back in the June 28 page, this was posted:
"Kohler Parts Bulletin # 178 covers the breather issue. You need part # 52 035 02-S. The change involves a new style of breather, with a reed riveted to the main plate. They do help alot!"
Where do I find this Parts Bulletin? I looked in the manuals thread but didn't come across it. I plan to order this part from a sponsor, but just wanted to read the entire bulletin.

When Dad and I had the lawn mower shop we kept a (I think) no.6 nitting needle. Worked slick for pulling the seat out of the carb on a BS.

I like a length of recoil starter rope and long needle nose pliers for hooking springs. Then if you need to you can cut the rope to remove it.
I got rain yesterday. High temp. 83. Cub cadets are happy.

Bernie-

Thanks for showing those spring tools. They look like they would/could be very useful.

Tom-

It does look like something that is up to no good. My father made tools and things all of my life some of which I still have. I guess that's where I get the desire to see exactly what I can make/do to get a job done.

Dave-

I have always used compressed air to get those Briggs seats out...sometimes unintentionally.

Anyway, I just wish this type of return spring was as easy to work with as the other.

I'm still thinking...

Some careful grinding and a trip through the sand blaster and you'd never know what it's been through.

Wayne S. I literally make a loop and then wrap the wire aound the rest of the wire. That way the spring end has a lot more to hold onto the end of the spring. I guess somewhat like making a noose. Yes the wire will tighten up somewhat around the spring however I've never had any trouble getting the wire off once the spring is re-atttached. AND I wear gloves and safety glasses.

Marlin-

I'll give that a try when I get back on the breakdown. I'm all for safety and wear the gloves and face protection too. The hook I made works ok and has never slipped in the four or five times I've used it. Being a hook it comes off very easily but using the loop sounds a little safer.

It has rained off and on all day here so I decided to do a little shop cleaning. I must have a hundred pounds of nuts, bolts, and washers of all kinds along with all sorts of hardware. I need to clear the bench and get ready to refresh some engines.

Does anyone have a Jiffy Balling sickle bar that can give me the dimensions of the plate that mounts to the side that the cable runs through? Finally got a IH show at the county fair which gives me the push to get this on a tractor. Thanks in advance.

To be quite frank- I hope everyone can forgive my ramblings. I haven't been on in awhile and do have just one question, and an explanation as to why I havent been on or touched the cubs lately. (if you do so choose to read the ramblings of a sleepy 18 year old.)

1. how do I put the hydro fan for the 109 on the driveshaft? I'm sure its simple, I'd just like to know, so, (on the off chance its cool tomorrow) I can get that done.

2. (my explanation) I have been talking with a John Deere dealer in Michigan, (I know, that's a dirty word to some of you guys) & they have unofficially agreed to sponsor me and send me to Owens Community College for the John Deere tech program. I'm really excited- where else in this ecconomy and job market can a kid fresh out of high school like me go into college with almost a 100% guarantee that when they graduate they'll have a full-time job lined up? The only downside- I'll be moving between Ohio (the college), and Michigan (the dealer) every eight weeks. Which consequently will make it harder to pursue my cub hobby. (hmmmm... maybe that should have been posted in comin's and goin's..)

Charles: Hey, that's great! Tractors are tractors, and the older JDs use Kohler engines. I wish you well.
Take the driveshaft off, put the fan on, reinstall the driveshaft.

Charles, some of the old Cub parts (steering/motor/etc.) will cross over with the green ones so you'll have a good line on parts for your Cub hobby in the future and a good job to support the hobby, so I'd rule "no foul". Judges?

Im in the process of assembling the drive clutch/springs on the drive shaft. I've done this before and it seems like there should be a washer at the back of the main spring and maybe the front but I looked up the parts schematic and it's not showing the washers. Any help is appreciated!

Bob-

There's a heavy washer with a smaller outside diameter that goes between the spring and the rear roll pin. I've never seen a washer behind the throwout bearing.

Hi,everyone this is my first time on here and want to say what a great forum.I have a 70 that I am restoring and can someone tell me if the shifter knob is 3/8 inside diameter. My shifter measures 1/2 inch is this original size and will the 3/8 knob give enough to slide over it.Thanks to all, I will probably have many more questions.

I was hoping for some help! I was wondering if there is any way to disengage the hydro on a 127 and if so how? The roll pin broke in the front of the drive shaft and I want to get it back in the garage without screwing anything else up. Thanks in advance.
Eric
