Don T.
Is that you on the D? Nice to put a face with the name. i've enjoyed your posts on your progress.

hi guys, just a beautiful morning here in Nova Scotia. I should have my v61s tires and tubes here Monday. They are 6 ply and I hope they are not to hard a tire for a garden tractor..they were way cheaper than the 2 ply turfs at the local tire store.I hate ebay, bid on a power angle set up for my 54" IH snow blade last night only to loose buy a 1 $

. I will just have to keep looking. it went for $175.00 and is that the normal price for the set up(cylinder, hoses, brackets),. I have to have one for next winter.

I want to remove my bucket on my loader and install the 450 snow blower on the front of my loader. I have a power beyond port and thought that a hydraulic motor might run the blower. I will need to know what the motor output speed would be . has anybody on here ever did that to run a blower. I think if it can be done I would have a slick unit to move snow. I`am open to what youall think on this mod.Off to town with the better half for sum supplies . Have a great day

-12 this am......... later Don T

No thats my neighbor that came down and helped to install the chains and weights. So he was first and then another friend that has a 104 arrived to plow some snow also. I think I was the 4th person to have a go lol.I bought a tube bender for make up new lines for the hydro lift and to install new lines on my loader. Just another tool that will come in handy around here. I will get the wife to take a picture of me and my O when it is painted. Kevin Mailman will be bringing his 104 back here on Monday am for us to start the sanding and painting , so I might as well paint my 1961 Original at that time also. later Don T

Morning all.

Got a package in the mail yesterday: a hydraulic lift cylinder from Dennis Brooks(thanks!). Now I need to start the fab part to make the one mounting bracket to get it on the snow blade. I need to also order a control soleniod(still trying to make sure I get the right one). Then some basic plumbing will get it all operating.

I'm looking in Northern Tool at their selection of solenoid valves and found a "3 position spring center closed" and I think that is what I want(any hydraulic specialist out here?) I've gotten on Google and did some soul searching to determine what all the symbols mean. Not really found the same as what's in catalog, but using common sense I think I have what is right.

I'll try to post pics of the progress to show how to do it(...lol...I hope so anyway LOL). We are having a slight warm up this weekend(snow almost gone), so will be good to try to tinker with it(no room inside).

Don T - charlie''s got a power angle cylinder ,cant you talk him out of it .

Larry The valve you need has to be open center not closed Open center is when the hyd pump is pumping oil all the time. Cub cadet uses an open center system.

Don-

I see a few issues with what you are trying to do with your 450. One, if your loader is on a 129, that tractor would struggle to run a 450 normally; you'll waste even more power by running it from a hydraulic motor instead of through a belt. I don't think the 129 would be able to keep up. I think those two-stage blowers need 16-18+ hp to work well. 12 is not going to cut it. It's probably only going to get 7 or 8 at the blower with your idea.

Also, I think it'd make more sense to get a different (as in CHEAPER) blower from some off-brand tractor and use that instead, since you can mount the hydraulic motor in practically any orientation. But your biggest issue is going to be the one I mentioned above.

You've got tons of tractors, just put the 450 on the 1512 you have, or the 1811 you just picked up.

DON T. Snow blower mounted to a loader sounds interesting. However, running the blower with a hyd. motor would be very easy, but take a really BIG motor. But they're common in ag and industrial equip. I'd run the drive sprocket right on the motor shaft. Just needs a VERY big pump to run it.
Northern Hyd. used to have all the formula's for converting flow & PSI into HP required for both elec. & gas motors/engines in their master catalogs, I'd check their website. If You need 12-14, or 16 HP to run the blower the hyd. motor will need that much, but factoring in the efficiency drop of the pump the motor driving the pump will need need to be bigger than that.

I see Your loader ending up on Your diesel soon! ;-)

Don T - You may have only lost that power angle setup by a buck, but you can console yourself by knowing that the winner of the auction may have actually had a much higher maximum bid. Another one will come along and you could end up getting it for even less - timing is everything.

Regarding your idea of mounting a snow blower on your loader: brilliant! I would never have thought of that, let alone be able to figure out how to make it happen. And running on a hydraulic motor - did I mention brilliant? I have no idea how to do it or if it would work, but you (and many others on this forum) just dazzle me sometimes with your ingenuity.

Neglecting inefficiencies, hp=psi*gpm/1714 for hydraulic flow.

I don't know how much horsepower you need to run the snowblower, but I know you can only get about 4.5 maximum to a pump from the stock flywheel side pulley. I haven't run the calculations on the front pto pulley, but I'd guess it to be good for about 10 hp on the 129. Assuming I'm correct about the 10 hp, and assuming about 85% effiency in the pump and 85% effiency in the motor, you'll be able to get about 7 hp to the blower if you're very careful about sizing the pump and motor to get the most out of the system. The later PTO with a 5/8" belt would be able to transfer more power.

I think the concept is great if you have extremely deep snow to deal with, but I think you'll have a hard time getting enough power to the blower to make it work well.

Matt G: The 450 snowblower is scheduled for the 1512D for Delta. I'm sitting here "on hold", ready to make about a 600 mile (round trip) road trip tomorrow. I'm just 1/3 of this situation, but Chris emailed that the 1811 & blower are ready pick up. If it all comes together, by this time tomorrow I'll be in Buxton, Maine, on the same road that Morgan Freeman walked in The Shawshank Redemption.

guys that an Idea that hit me and I have a spare 10 hp K here that could be used. My snapper walk behind has no problem blowing snow . I know this is a bigger blower and will require more hp to run.But the loader had no problem moving the 450 blower around and that were the idea came from.
184568.jpg

I will look into it and see if it can be done. My pump on the loader puts out 8 gal a minute and I have no clue if that would be enuf to run the blower. I could make a frame to attach a 15 hp engine or a 18m lol and use it for the blower. I do want this to have lots of power for snow removal. I think a smaller engine might work if it just had the blower to run and no other belts to turn. Someone must know what i would need to run a direct drive to the blower. Later Don T

Frank A. Currier(Northern Maine)
Frank if you want to take the trip now, go for it! I can put that blower to work now lol. Just have a safe trip, I would have waited the 8 weeks and got it when the roads might be better. Your Call... Be safe....

Well the O is going on floor stands as next week I take the Cub apart and repaint it. I have another set of clutch disk all turned and ready.Everything is here to rebuild the drive shaft that I will need I think, and I know Charlie can ship to me some more parts.I promise few pictures this time as there will be a 104 to rebuild at the same time. four days a week we will work in my heated shop at 64 deg and redo 2 Cub Cadets.I can`t think of a better way to kill the rest of this winter.lol I have 29" tv and full cable and internet and a FM radio and Bose speakers. I like it in here lol. Later Don T

Some of us are still waiting for snow.....although it would be a convenient time to re-paint the snow chucker and blade....

Another thing yep your right lol . We gave it some thought as we will have all the white ready first and paint it and store at Kevins house. this will be intersting as I don`t think that he can put his together alone , so we will be putting two cubs together at one time ,with me telling him whats next.I guess I can be a good director for him . It will be a great time with company and geterdone, lol. Later Don
