Regarding your snow thrower question about mounting brackets. First, I may as well be the one to point out the correct terminology to you, or someone else will

- IH called these single stage units snow throwers rather than blowers. Unfortunately, I only have one narrow frame tractor (147) and no snow thrower for it, so I can't answer your mounting bracket question. On my 782, the snow thrower bracket mounts to the front of the tractor frame in place of the mower deck mule drive. I'm guessing it's a similar setup for your 100. I'm sure someone much more knowledgeable will chime in with a better answer. Good Luck.

Is there a list somewhere that has the options for the Cub Original? Would really be nice if it had what year they where introduced.
 
Wayne S. Fancy has been around garden tractors since he was a little kitten. Once he knows someone loves tractors also then he becomes their best buddy. His Mom brought him to us when he was very little. His eyes were matted almost closed so "Dr." Angel began treatment. He got his name from the way he would walk... a happy step. His Daddy was a big also black Kitty we called Big Boy. We think that Big Boy tangled with a huge raccoon one night and that really tore him up good so we had to put Big Boy to sleep. After that Fancy's Mom (Miss Friskers) stopped showing up.

Jeff B: I assume we are dealing with a mechanical PTO.I don't think it makes much difference whether the engine is in or out - but if the engine is out you kinda need to clamp or bolt the engine to something stable to keep it still while tugging/tapping on a stubborn PTO . Just off hand, I think I prefer it in the tractor. Just my $.02.

Tim C: Yes, there are brochures which list optional equipment as well as accessories for the Original Model Cub Cadet. I am not aware of of anything providing a timeline of introductions other than the 1961-1963 period of production.

When Kraig wakes up this morning, I think he has copies of those brochures on a CD he can post or email.

I'm like Myron and prefer the engine be installed. My "trick" for removing a pto is simply get a long, blunt punch and approach the pto from the left side of the tractor. Down by the points cover you can access the pto at an angle with the punch. I catch the pulley and TAP with a small hammer. Rotate the pto and repeat. It will take several taps with several rotations but this method hasn't failed me yet. A little PB blaster may help.

You may want to check out Matt G.s website. He made a tool (puller) for this.

Jeff B., I'd say it's easier to remove a PTO with the engine still mounted in the tractor.

Tim. C., while not a list with dates, this is a series of pages from an Original brochure followed by a two page Data Sheet that show the various options and attachments. I's interesting that headlights are not listed in either, fenders are shown on some of the Cubs in the brochure

These both list headlights, also note that is states "NEW" by several items in the 1963 catalog.

I want to make an adapter for my my rear pto to go to a 540 from the cub pto. I mean it goes right on the pto itself. they have them for full-sized tractors and i just thought maybe i could come up with something.
 
Myron and Kraig thanks i think i will put the motor back in for the pto removal/repair but first i want to clean everything up and light touch up paint although cub time has to wait a few days as i am doing some remodeling inside and should be done soon. thanks to all on here for all the great advice

its simple and down to the point plus its all i really need. I wouldnt have that large bulky reverser thing hangin off the back.
 
Josh, well, with an adapter like you are talking about you'll still have only 515 RPM and the rotation will be wrong.
