Now someone just needs to figure up how much space it takes to store 35 CC's and I'll know how big to build my NEXT shop!

Art 35 tractors would take up a pile of space. My shop is to small with 3 tractors and its 28' x 30' with 11' high inside. The thing I did right was the 24" overhang out side, this helps when it is raining and you have locked the door. lol I do plan on adding some unheated storage this spring I hope because the 12'x 20' garden shed has 4 cubs and all the garden stuff piled in there and the tent shed 14'x20' . well it has my snapper snow blower and ATV ,1974 2 stroke MC and the rest is lawn furniture. well I did forget it also stores my 147 and 125 lol. so I will try to add to the side of my shop a lean to that will be 14'x30' so I can store all the cubs in there . I just have send the wife away to visit someone so I can have it built when she is gone and I can move all the cubs in before she gets home lol. later Don T

My 1282 tag just says:

Cub Cadet
Brownville, Tennessee
Made in USA

I'll leave it to someone else to explain the significance of that. I've been told it was only used for a short time. My dad purchased this one new in late '81 or early '82.

Dave Ross:
Regarding the oil ring in my k301. I do have a 3 part ring. A zig zag metal with two outside flat rings. I thought that they should be the same, but as long as they are OK it is fine with me.
Thanks
Earl

Earl, are you saying the flat rings, That fit above and below the zig zag oil ring in the bottom groove, are .025?
Thats exsessive, talk to the people that sold you the rings, stuff like that happens. they should make that right.
I still wonder how you measured it. I install the center (zig zag) ring and both out side rings then hold them all tight up to the piston, it takes 2 fingers on both hands. Look at the gap you have .025 is about the thickness of a matchbook cover.

Well, I finally took the oil pan off the k321 on my 1450 and my worse fears were realized. The bottom surface is badly worn down on 3 of the 4 mounting points, so it rocks when I set it down on the mounting rails. Even worse, the bolt holes are wallowed out and at least half the threads stripped out. Fortunately, I've become pretty good friends with the owner of a local machine/welding shop. He's done a lot of work for me on the Cubs and takes great pride in his work. He'll have it back like new by Monday. I may be putting his kid through college!

(Actually, his son is in the Army, stationed in Kuwait right now).

Also found a couple cracks on the mounting points of the dash pedestal that he'll fix up.

One of these days I may have to buy a welder and find somebody else's stuff to practice on!

Dave and Earl...
Ring end gap is supposed to be measured with the ring in the cylinder, not on the piston. Put the ring in the bore, let it expand and measure the end gap with a feeler gage. Make sure the ring is square in the bore when you measure it - I usually have it about halfway between top and bottom of the cylinder..

Greg,

Go buy the welder and while you are at the store buy a good grinder.
You'll know when you weld it right because you won't have to grind it down and weld it again after it breaks.

Well if a belt drive excludes it from being considdered a GT, than the Original would have to be excluded also as it too is a belt drive.

Kendell I'm not aurguing with you. I try to keep the old set of rings till I'm ready to put in the new ones. Put the old top ring on the piston and use the piston to push the new ring into the bore till the old ring stops you. that new ring should be centered in the bore and you measure the gap. same with the second ring. The oil ring is a different animal.
Lonny, The original gets a freebe there cause theres several things on that tractor that didn't carry over to any other model, but it still had a kohler engine and a Farmal cub based transmission, The others don't mainly cause they were sold as "econominal" alternatives. (cheaper engines, cheaper transmissions)
