Don-
You need to quit messin around with that ultrasonic crap and get some real carb cleaner.

Harry-
Ya got your "Vincents" messed up!

Don T. and Harry- The Kohler K series manual calls for 2 1/2 turns out for the IDLE and 2 turns out for the HIGH speed jet for the K301. After messing with around 50 carbs you learn to memorize these numbers. I guarantee that 3+ turns on the high speed jet will flood that engine and make it stumble. The settings Don has are for a K321 or 341. Even the IH service manual does not have that high of settings. Only 2 turns max for high and 1 1/2 for idle for a K301.

Come on guys...the manuals aren't just there to look pretty and waste people's money!!!

Ryan McShane

I printed this off and have it on the wall in my shop .

Don T. Thats great, but your numbers are off. a K241 is a 10hp, a K301 is a 12hp, a 321 is a 14, and a 341 is a 16. I now see why you were trying to set your 301 the way you were...

Don I must say I like your 100 on the last page, I am a wide frame guy but someday if I get a narrow it will be a 100

Harry - Vince T here....... I used a brush in my parts cleaner to get to all the nooks and crannies of the outside of the carb. No brush in the Berrymans Dip, I just set everything in the plastic container and let it swim for several hours.

When re-assembling my carb I set the main needle at 2 1/4 turns, and the low speed at 1 3/4 turns. After starting it and running it at high speed I adjusted the main needle a tiny bit, a the most a 1/4 turn(I don't remember if it was clockwise or counter clockwise...) and I think it ran better. This is when I noticed the governor spring was in the top hole on the throttle cable side so I stopped and did not mess with it again. This 10hp motor does not want to idle on its own, does not want to slow all the way down unless move the hydro handle to move the Cub then the motor will idle down. I think in time I'll move this governor spring to the middle location and see if it then works better.

OK, so what do I have here? Junk pile additive or what. I don't think there is any way that this contraption was ever installed on the 1250 I picked up yesterday. An 1100 maybe but certainly not a horizontal Kohler mill.

Sure looks like "Custom by Cobble Craft Creations" to me!!

And here is the cab or parts of it that came with. There are mounting holes in the fender where the rear upright bolted on. I can't see where at all that the front w/shield fastens to the tractor there's no evidencs of brackets or other stuff having been attatched anywhere on or near the dash/hood/cowl area.

Dave- It looks as if you might have some sort of sun shade if you can't find out where the windshield bolts on...that would be kind of sweet!

David, That snow thrower looks like the one I have for a craftsman but its painted the wrong color. The tags on it even look the same. If I was closer I'd work out a deal with you.

I think it's missing a bunch of pieces to mount the windshield. There are snaps alont the bottom of it like a canvas cowl or something was supposed to go there and also more along the back and the sides of the top. I'll bet this thing had fabric sides and rear to it.

Ryan - yup, the Kohler Service manual Don copied probably covers every K series, natural gas, etc. The IH Service manual setting are the best for memory. My memory is close enough to get things started. You have to adjust anyway.

Vince T - sorry about the mix up. I'd be putting the Governer or Throttle cable control spring (guess I should look up the correct name) back into the original holes where it shows the wear. I'd also check the adjustment on the Governor arm (pain in the _ _ _ ). Wish I had a pair of those funky pliers shown in the Service manual, and 3 hands as well.

David S - you're right, there is no way that thrower was used on that 1200. It could possibly have been used on a Cadet. Is there any ID tag info on it? The pics are dark of in the area I think there may be a right angle gear box (up close to the housing). Can you get us some pics of that area? Also, give us some pics from the auger side.

Just got my 50 years of Cub Cadet book in the mail. It has a bunch of good prototype pictures I have never seen before, and a plethora of good info.

My new to me Originals s/n is 16971 which makes it a September of 61. My other one is a 62.

Jeff
; the 100 was brush painted when I bought it.It looks good from a distance , but it does work great. Seems every summer the clutch will slip some till the rust from sitting gets cleaned off the clutch.

Ok guys ;remember this carb that I cleaned a few day ago.I saw the it had a piece broke out where the main shaft goes in the fuel bowl.

Well the 125 will start ,idle and run of that carb.

Now to push my luck and install the point saver and a new choke cable and get ready to paint some fenders .

Don T - geez am I glad you ain't been practicing your pitchin'. But honestly at this point I think we all wanted you to get that original carb finally fixed - and maybe it was if you just changed the hi-speed needle.

Don-

You said you cleaned the high speed needle in the ultrasound cleaner but did you check to see if the holes/shaft of the needle were in fact open? I put the end of the tube that comes with the carb cleaner up against one of the holes and watch to see if it comes out of all of the other openings. If you do this be careful because it will spray all over you...especially be careful of your eyes. I think this needle has been your problem all along.

If you do like Harry suggested and use the needle from the 129 carb be sure and screw it in first while counting the revs so you can put it back where it was. This would be a good way to eliminate as or find it to be the problem.

I couldn't tell from your pic what was broken...too fuzzy!

Don T.: While we're at it can you explain your method of retorquing the head? That gas tank support is a wierd situation.
