Apparently there were just 4,005 of these units built. Last Fall one kind of fell into my possession. Because of the circumstanses I feel obligated to pay it due homage, in my own particular way. I've mentioned starting a new thread and got no negative feedback (and I know Charlie reads everything when he's not feeding the stove or paying attention to business) so here's the new thread.

Hey, Frank, maybe you could talk him into "closing" the thread until everyone posts their S/N information to Art Aytay. --Just kidding.

Eliza what is the serial number of your 169? should be 6 digits starting with 5

I don't have mine memorized either.. plus it's 1 1/2 miles away at the shop. But I'd like to participate. I did send my data to Art.. maybe he can post that updated spreadsheet with the names showing? It's not like National Security concerns or something right?

Hey Frank - great thread to start. And for everyone's info following is my family 169 info.

Hydro Harry's IH Cub Cadet Model 169 Serial No. 2050048U523760 (built Sept. 1974)
Kohler K Series 13 cooling fin Model K341A, Serial No. 6272028, Spec No. 71154a
&
Little Hydro's IH Cub Cadet Model 169 Serial No. 2050048U523764 (built Sept. 1974)
Kohler K Series 13 cooling fin Model K341A, Serial No. 6204561, Spec No. 71154a

And although I have concerns with National Security, I believe the following is Mike F's info (which I obtained when he was not in his shop just to make sure he has the REAL DEAL - boy will he be surprised).

Mike Frade's IH Cub Cadet Model 169 Serial No. 2050048U528330 (Built Oct. 1974)
Kohler K Series 12 cooling fin Model K341A, Serial No. 6337740, Spec No. 71154a

Ok all you BIG 169 OWNERS
Who has the original tail light lenses and who doesn't. Mine are both the replacements.
One is a REFLECT-O-LITE 378 SAE-P2-A-75 and the other is a later replacement BARGMAN 378 SAE-P2-A-75.
Who has the original lens REFLECT-O-LITE 378 SAE-P1-A-70? I know Thurman S. has one on his No. ONE 169 (and I have one other contact that has one removed from a W/F tractor)

I need to STILL get my engine specs off the herd here sometime if I remember to (sorry Art)

Harry, I can look the next time I am home to see what my herd has for light lenses. I know mine dont have any lenses but the bases are still on there.

Ryan: You gots to be de man when it comes to an accumulation of 169's.

Thanks Frank, but I am sure there are more boys and girls out there who have more 169's than me

But I'm sure if another one around here came about it might have a home in the three sided shed!!!

And now I have a problem. I'll soon get my balanced and underground .010 crankshaft back from Dave and I'm going to need a conn rod, STD piston and rings. Should I just go with STENS for now and see what happens?

Frank- I'm running STENS parts in 2 of mine right now. They are working great so far. This was the first two engines I ever put STENS parts in. I generally save up and buy Kohler but being in college that dream is about as long lived as Paul B's for sale ad a few days back. The piston directiona notch was a bit crude for my liking but I thought they were decent parts. I know they arent the quality of Kohler but I figured I'd rather have these puppies running and ready for work than sitting in the corner waiting for the money for Kohler parts. Just my experience and .02.

Now HARRY: Pay attention. You know where that side panel belongs! Howsemever, you're right - an hour meter should belong on the dash and not down there where you can't watch it.
"You know when you're a tractor guy when you measure time in tenths of an hour". My story -- stickin' to it.

Frank - on the rod and piston, since you know the rod has a finite life I'd recommend staying with Kohler. The piston/rings are something that can wear and be more readily replaced so STENs or others maybe worth a shot if the cost is that much different. Ya gotta do your home work tho. Back when I was buying this stuff I discovered Kohler sells thru Regional Distributors who sell to the dealers. I understood the Distributor actually set the prices and the one covering the NE area was the highest in the country. The midwest had the best prices I could find. Don't know if it's the same today.

Harry- I can tell you from personal experience that Kohler parts arent "reasonable" here anymore. In the last 6 years I have watched the price of a Kohler piston go from $50 to $250...and that was just the piston. Now im sure its higher or lower somewhere else...but for me, there has to be a breaking point. But, to each his own!

Ryan McShane

That is just a "crazy" price for a piston

.

I mention to Frank C last night that the next engine I rebuild will get and insert for the crank rod. I think that is there weak point and I think the insert would make the rebuild last much longer and should not cost many $$ to do . What you all think
