Just got home , I picked put some grade 8 nuts and round stock. I`am off to our IH truck dealer in the am because I was told they carry spacers that I can use. I might use a few washer but not that many lol.That last picture that tractor needs a new head gasket, with all the washers you never get a good torque. I see there is no nut under all them washers.I will get spacers and do it correctly the first time. Looks like I will need to have about 3/4" clearance from the head for the tin. Would that be correct ??? later Don T
 
Don, all those photos are of the same engine, the last photo being a "before" photo. The PO did that washer/spacer thing, and yes, no doubt it is why the head gasket failed. However, there was a LOT more wrong with the engine than that.

I bought stud material for studs, I think the back three have to be studs for the gas tank bracket and Two for the front plate that the muffler bolts to also. I have hopes to have that K running in a few days. I have to chase the holes and clean up the threads and install the wiring . Thanks for those pictures.

looks like the piston cracked and separated in a ring grove. pre-ignition left unchecked could lead to a cause of that cracking, hydraulic lock also . I hope Kraig can fill us in on what his rebuilder told him was the problem. Might have been just old age lol.

Don, Jerry, here's what David had to say about why he believed that piston failed.

The frame, pedestal, steering column, steering wheel, wiring harness and seat support went to a guy in northern Wisconsin that had a BIG White Pine tree fall on his 105 during the June 18, 2001 tornado that destroyed much of Siren, Wisconsin. He found me on this forum and emailed me to see if I could help him find the parts to repair his 105. He had been searching for several months with no luck. The 105 was one that his parents had bought new that he had grown up with. He had recently refurbished it only to have a tree fall on it. Around that time I learned of a parts 125 that Craig Carney knew of. In February of 2002 Craig and I went on a road trip to get the 125 and a bunch of other parts, see below.</font>

Yes I seem to remember that flaw in those pistons. Had that same thing happen in a 350 bowtie years ago.

I`am drilling round stock and making some spacers for my 125 for the tin on the head. Should be able to have it in the tractor soon.

I`am looking for the Tillman washer number to repair my Carb on the 125. Do you have a number for them ? Next order Charlie will have to send me two repair kits $$.

The hole is buggered and won`t hold the cable. I see and order coming .
 
1 more question for today ! I have two heads here and well is one any better to use than the other ?I will have to mod the tin so no big deal.

Don, I'm not sure if I still have the part in question but if I can find it you can have it. I'll try to find it ASAP and let you know. I won't be getting home this evening until after 9:00PM so I might not get to it until tomorrow evening... Here's an old photo of my parts 149 that had a windowed Kohler. BTW, the breather parts I sent you some time back came from this engine block.

That is it . I find the small stuff hard to get. I hate to rob parts . some day I might want to run that tractor also. I know there is know way I need all my tractors running for yard work, but I would have to rob from a 123 that could be restored some day. I think they were the first hydros

.the weather up here is weird this year, Seen a few guys out on there Big M C . way to cold yet for me ! I have to read up on the FAQ for the hillman carb repair.So Charlie will have something to send over,I`am looking for an APT that will let me have wine delivered .I think I have your address.

Don t, the one on the left is a early head. The one on the right is the newest style, and the spark plug hole is offset to prevent plug fouling in cold starting, I think the manual says something holding heat in a smaller area to produce more power. A po changed the head in my 122 to the one on the right and it seems to work nicely.
 
QUESTION???? My brother asked me today if IH ever made a QA conversion for 70's-123's? I'm not sure but I think I've heard of someting about that before. Inquiring minds want to know.

Oh, and another question is a 1711 considered the Super Steer front axle.
