Ive got a question that might be a bit dumb. I have a Haban sickle-mow on one of my 123 tractors but the engine in it isnt worth the time to fix it and i was thinking of putting the mower onto my 128 so i can take it to the shows without having to drag a dead tractor. will it work?

my haban manual shows it mounted on a wideframe, but the model numbers from the book dont match the mower tag.

Not dumb at all!
But the RIGHT thing to do, would be to take the engine out of the 128 and put it in the 123.
The 123 is a far better machine.

Justin, the Haban 402-D is for the Narrow Frames and the 402-E is for Wide Frame Cub Cadets. I'm not familiar enough with them to know what the difference is. It might not be much. I have the manuals for both models. I believe the front mounts attach to the axle and the wide frame has a different axle so that might be where the difference in the 402-D and 402-E is.

charlie-

the thing is, i dont want to pull the engine from my 128. i use it for mowing with a deck, but i would like to have a match to go with my manual for laughs at the shows.

what i might do, is make one good k301 out of the two from both of my 123 tractors.

"The 123 is a far better machine"
Obviously because it's a hydro, since the 1x8 / 1x9's are MUCH better looking.....

well said kendell lol

now that ive gotten my model aa ford out of the garage, i will start work on the haban. either swap onto the 128 or ill make a good engine between the two i have. i dont know which will be easier

Cleaned up the hydro on my 129 light refurb Here is some photos before and after.
My question is besides changing fluid and filter how far into this should i go with out knowing any of its history Should i remove the unloaders and inspect and clean or not?

Jeff,
While it is apart that far, a trunion repair might be in order, along w/ a new set of springs... It'll make the speed control so much nicer... It's pretty greasy, perhas a hydro pump gasket change, too...

Scott from the pic you cant tell but the trunion is not worn and is square to measurements and the springs feel good. I will do the gasket since it will be drained for fluid change, what else like the unloaders and stuff/ I cant put much money into it untill I know the motor and hydro are good.

JUSTIN - sickle mowers pull REAL easy, and in the right conditions you can mow really fast. I'd get a running engine into the 123. Even a 10 HP K241 would be plenty of HP.

As far as Charlie's comment, and Kraig's, And Kendell's, I agree the 1X8/1X9 series does look better than a 1X2/123, I never cared for that grill. The Double Zig-Zag was always my favorite. AND BE QUIET ART! ;-)

If I werer you i would reaplace the cork gasket and rebuild the trunion! cause in your last picture is see that the caps have worn a place to the side and that causes binding. Not good for a smoth hydro.Sometimes a small repair will make a huge difference in your overall enjoyment.

I love love the looks of my 125 for sure but the 147 now there a N frame front and a 14 to do the work , a stack lol would be PPPerfect for sure. Might have to see and hear that.

Can you clean or repair a hydro valve? I have one that works great but leaks out the pin hole in the top.

Charlie just ship it i`am not going to baby sit these guys. Thanks Don T

Wilbur,
I guess you missed these two questions in the Cubfaq dint ya!
55. How can repair my hydro relief check valves? Part 1

55a. How can repair my hydro relief check valves? Part2

DONALD - The 147 has those fancy "Bird Baths" in the hood and the one-piece stamped fenders, which are really nice. Still has that great looking Double-Zig-Zag Grill! ;-)

Not sure what Your talking about on the hyd. valve when you say "pin hole". You mean the rod the lever pushes/pulls in & out of the valve body? My 982 manuals are out in the shop, I'd have to check the parts look-up, I would think there's a small o-ring in there. Those valves, actually called spools & bodies, are almost a "Matched pair", honed to a very tight tolerance and clearance. But they shouldn't be hard to clean internally and repair.

Having had a Haban sickle mower on a 126, I have to say I'll never punish a Cub Cadet like that again. IMHO, that whole hanging from the front axle design is a great example of poor engineering. The outboard mounted pitman drive generates extremely high loading on the right spindle, not to mention that the vibration has to be hard on every part of the tractor. If you run one, keep a supply of right spindles handy.

Aside from the front mounting, I thought it was a well built unit. A rear mounted version running off either a rear PTO or the tiller drive gearbox would be nice. It would at least put the load where the tractor is designed to carry it and allow for some room to adjust the height of cut.
