Kendall & Kraig,
Thanks for the info on the steering issue. yes it appears that the roll pin is broken, how do I get that pin out?

Thanks again for the help.

Kevin

BTW... We got a total of 31 inches of fresh stuff over the weekend... Way to much this early...

Ah geez, you kids......I'm not complaining (and I'm the same age as Cher....)

KENDELL - Not to get off topic.....But how old do You figure Cher is with all the "rebuilds, Refurbish's, and new parts She's had added"? Kinda like the story about G. Washington's hatchet He chopped the cherry tree down with. Some Guy tried to sell it on Ebay, claimed "New Original Condition" Turned out the handle had only been replaced three times and the head twice since George used it.

Morning guys Off playing in the snow this morn because we are to get some more tonight. love the 149 with the wheel weights on. Have a great Cub day and Merry Xmas to all. later Don T

the 149 with the stack makes a good bark pushing snow, LOL got to love that sound.

Dennis F. and Kendell I. I view all those things that Cher has done as "updates" so that she could keep up with a 57 year young fella like me.

It snowed a little dusting last night. I'll have to plug in the "D" in a little bit. It may be 18* outside only it is still too blamed cold to be laying a slab of plywood and work on the 125. (Of course it is supposed to be up to 36* on Friday.)

Mike M.-

Yeah, I know, that's the next thing I'll need to figure out, but I'd like to solve this belt mystery first.

Dennis and Marlin:
The paint may be new, but the serial number says it was built in '46

Jason D,

Great comparison pictures for the forum. On the armatures, notice all the copper in the windings and their size in the two S/G armatures vs. the regular generator armature.

I do not recommend you use the brushes from the generator in your S/G as they are different from regular S/G brushes and won't hold up and could cause arcing/pitting on the contact surfaces. You should be able to get a pair of correct Delco Remy brushes (Part #1 946 427) for your S/G for around $10. I get mine at a local autoparts supply store that handles them but I'm sure our fine forum sponsors have them available as well if you can't find them locally.

I have put the QA36 snow thrower attachment on my brothers 104, when I engage it, the thrower turns very well, however when I get into the snow it stops, The PTO is turning, the belt is now which tells me it needs to be tightened however, I cannot hand tighen it anymore. Should I use a wrench and crank it down or is there other things I should look at, maybe it needs to be greased? any ideas would be grateful...

Kevin, the bolt for the belt adjuster should be lubricated. It's possible that the threads are messed up, rusty, or just dirty. I have used a wrench on mine to get the belt nice and tight. Just go slow. You should be able to view how much adjustment you have left on the bolt if you peek down between the subframe and the tractor frame.

Matt S, I used the same cub yellow as Cory 5339-25. The IH white I used was 5339-15.

I will give that bolt some lube and see if that helps.

I have also tried to hammered on the roll pin for the front axle assembly and cannot get it to come out

How do you get that sucker out of there?

Kevin, does the spindle cap come off of the spindle? Is the spirol pin pieces stuck in both the spindle cap and the spindle? It should drive out without too much trouble. You may have to spray it with some PB Blaster to free it up if it's rusted. You may also have to get a set of roll pin punches, a regular punch, especially if you are using too small of a size can cause the roll pin to expand and make it not want to budge.

it looks like the pieces are stuck at both ends, I can move them a little bit back and forth but that's it. I was wondering if I should cut the end of one and try to punch it through, will heat help at all?

Kevin, cutting one end off might help, the ends are probably mushroomed out which is why it only moves a little back and forth. In this case, neither PB Blaster or heat will help, unless you use extreme heat.

They do look a little mushroomed, I will cut one end off and see if that helps... Thanks again for all the info

Anyone know what size spiral pins (size, length, standard duty or heavy duty) I need for the shear pins on my QA42A thrower? I would like to order some from Mc Master.

TIA!

Jim

Jim, if you are referring to the spirol pin that goes in the small sprocket it is listed on the Parts Lookup as 1/4" dia. x 1-1/4 long. Not sure if it should be standard duty or heavy duty....

Oops, a second look shows that it's listed as HV which I assume stands for "heavy".

jim i just replaced the roll pin on my qa36 and i used a 1/4 by 1 1/2 that way i had a liitle to grab when it brakes so far normal duty (hillman brand) from true value has been fine but i did by extra
