That's the story on the angle blade cylinders. I just had one done last week, There are no welds on the NF hydraulic lift cylinders though.

Just had this blade cylinder done last week and you can easily see the welds on each end.

David S - I think your question got lost when the thread page turned and you posted a pic of the blade cylinder. I'd like to know myself exactly how the NF Hydraulic Lift cylinder comes apart.

David, PULL!

The hoses are what holds the ends in. They are not welded or screwed in. Just pull the ends out. May have to twist and wiggle them a bit. You will see what I mean after you get one of the ends pulled out on how the hoses hold the cylinder ends in when the hoses are attached.

I asked the same question many years ago on here, when I was trying to get mine apart for the first time, and got the answer to just PULL!

If that's the case then, with the exception of getting a new rod made up and locating seals, I should be able to rebuild this one myself??

Yes. Mine was leaking at the shaft so I pulled it apart and buffed the rod a little with steel wool. I got a new o ring then I packed a bit of Teflon tape where the o ring goes to make it push a bit more onto the shaft.

Maybe its just me but nothing is more annoying than a leaky cub.

Does the tube have a stop machined into it to keep the ends from being pushed in too far when re assembling it??

Do both ends come out? i.e. the anchor end AND the rod end??

David, Let us know if you get the cylinder pulled apart and if you had to hook it between two tractors to do it.

I was able to rebuild mine myself. Replaced the O-rings and as suggested, used steel wool to polish the rod up. No more leaks.

Yes, both ends pull out. When you reassemble, just line the threads for the hoses up with the holes in the outer body of the cylinder. Like I said earlier, its the hoses that hold the ends in...and keep them in place.

Get it pulled apart and it will all make sense to you then, like it did me.

Kirk, I don't put too much emphasis on post count. I probably have one of the higher post counts here and I still feel like a total noob when it comes to hydraulics, engines, transmissions and so on. I have access to a bunch of photos, brochures and manuals. Just because I have a bunch of manuals doesn't mean I know how to use them.

As Kraig said post count is meaningless, its all in the matter of your post. Take me for instance I post alot but not all is cub advice.

But the info and knowledge here is incredible.

Now to cub talk, part of the pull with two tractors was serious, with a hydro you could go real slow and gentle like a reverse press.

OK!. So, We got it apart w/o too much trouble. Clamped the anchor end in the vise and simply snapped the cyl rod out to the end of it's travel and the ends started sliding out a little at a time.

Then drove the anchor end out w/a drift.

Got everything cleaned up. I think I will run a brake cyl hone into both ends of the tub to clean that area up some. Looks like all I will need other than some 'O' rings (3 large & 1 small) and a leather ring to reassemble the unit after I get a piece of 1/2" rod from the hydraulic shop on Monday. The piston itself is screwed onto one threaded end of the rod and is staked in place. I think I will let the Hyd shop remove that, hoping they will have some "trick"way of holding the piston w/o damaging the machined surfaces.

This is the anchor end, only one 'O' ring here. As rusted as this end was, I can hardly believe it came apart at all!
