Matt
the plate is a hair thinner than 1/16",my GUESS would be 16 gauge, but thats a guess could be 18 gauge steel.
All the measurements were with a stanly tapemeasure while the panel was in the tractor!!

Jason/Matt-

Those aren't the same. If it ever quits snowing, I might be able to dig up one of mine to draw up.

thanks, but no hurry, when i get time ill go measure the block out plate i currently have in mine!
What i would really like to know is what brand has a good white (shaker can) that matches the 100's white paint???
Thanks
Matt

Don T - I recently got some replacement brake pads from CC Specialties for my grandson's 1250. They are approximately 3/16" thick and come with a package of "Devcon" brand two-part "Plastic Steel Epoxy". I agree with Dennis F - I believe any quality two-part epoxy will do the trick. They don't take a lot of abuse. I think my new pads will last another 30 years!

Matt S., it sounds like you are getting ready to do some painting. Have you read this thread? There might be some useful info there for you. For rattle can paint, do you have a Fleet Farm, Farm and Fleet or TSC (Tractor Supply Company) store or any farm supply type store in your area? If so they would be a good place to check for paint and other common tractor parts. On the light panel, I believe the 70/100 used a flat panel with no flange bent into it. The 1x2/3 series like Jason posted has that flange bent along one side as a stiffener. If you plan on making your own light panel, use the block out panel as a template for the new one, or just CAREFULLY measure and cut out the holes. The headlight panels have two studs per headlight and 4 for mounting the panel, welded (could be pressed in PEM type studs though) onto them to hold the headlight rings in place, you'll need to either drill and countersink (not much metal to countersink) for long flat head screws or just use round head or pan head screws in place of the welded in studs. You might be able to find some long PEM studs that you could press in but that is specialty hardware. Then you'll have to find some retainer rings.... If you don't need the stock look and just want some headlights remind me in the morning and I'll do a search of the archives on my work PC of home brew head light setups.

Matt S.

You can find a lot of good answers to your paint question in the FAQ's under #5.

Matt-
Valspar makes a good (shaker can) paint. The only place i have found it so far is the Tractor Supply Co. It cost's about $4.99/can. The color is labeled on the back of the can on a sticker they sell all of the Cub Cadet Colors (Except the Red). This is a very good and cheap paint, i have used it on my 106, Original, 102, 122, and my 70.

Well it was time to take the 1450 north for a little snow practice.
111527.jpg

So I decided to go out a play a little,
111528.jpg

Then the next morning, it started to snow & blow,
111529.jpg

Little did I know that would have to shovel a starting point to use the 1450 with just a blade on it.

The post on the left are 4ft. tall!
111531.jpg

Did I mention that I HATE moving snow with a blade! Especially when the actual temp is 24 BELOW Zero!
111532.jpg

It sure was nice to come in after 6 hours straight of pushin that stuff.

Lucas Craig Hockensmith, it's funny every time I see one of your posts. I work with a Matt Hockensmith and he is the one who got me into Cubs a few years ago. He has redone a few wheel horses and after many night shifts talking about what we had as kids is when I got my 149. We had a 147 growing up and his uncle is willing him a restored 147. Its been downhill ever since. I've showed him your profile and he said there is no relation. When I first saw one of your posts, I thought that was a weird coincidence. That not being a very common name. Anyway, nice original. Nick

Charlie, that looks like too much fun. I have only had to plow once this year. This crazy S.W. Pa winter is ridiculous. One day we have 10 inches of snow, the next 2 days are hovering around 5-10 degrees, and the next couple of days are in the 40's-50's. Well, we got some snow this afternoon and evening, but not plowable yet. Which is good because I am in the middle of putting a 1450 driveshaft setup on my 149. I just can't take the vibration anymore. Hope this helps. Nick

Charlie, that kind of day takes a few hours inside to get warm!

I tried out my thrower on the 782 tonight, even though we only had a few inches of snow. Worked great until one time after raising it to back up, it wouldn't drop again - stuck in the lifted position. I was cold and tired and just parked it for the night. I'll investigate tomorrow to see what came loose or got lodged to prevent it from lowering back to the ground.

Got a "NEW" hood for my original today in the mail. Boy, it looks like crap. The seller wasn't a 100% honest. It was sure cheap but....after repainting the one that came on my original, my buddy said he thought the whole bible was printed in braille on the top. (It had a few rust pits but who can notice, other than him?) What is the deal with the dents in the original hoods by the ornament. I told my buddy tonight that it must have been IH when they rolled them off the assembly line into the parking lot, they drove them right into a telephone pole. Every one I have seen has the front of them dented down in. Too embarrassed to show pics of the "NEW" one yet. Nick

Nick, Yes The Hockensmith clan is very hard to come by. My hood is exactly how you explained. Thought about puddying the front, but figured it may crack under stress from lifting and twisting the hood, or installing the ornament. It will just have to do how it is now. I'm soon ready to paint a few more misc parts and hopefully prep the front part of the frame for primer this week.

Charlie, good to see that the Moose has landed, errr, I mean, been hung on the wall. Looking good!

A little to ad to the adhesive questions. I used to use some stuff made by Fusor. It's quite expensive but I would guarantee you would rip metal apart before the adhesive gave way. That's what they use to glue our cars together.
With the Original hood leading edge, bout 15min with a body hammer and dolly will straighten them nicely.

Oh ya..Charlie...N I C E

Trying to get my QA42A thrower put back together the right way... my Binder Books manual is on its way. I don't have spacers #8, and plates #1 and #9 are not installed correctly, I think. Can someone help describe correct installation of those? On mine, I have no spacers and the plates are bolted together (with wrong bolts also) and as you can see the PO has some plate steel washers installed(maybe those are supposed to be the spacers between plates#1 and #9, perhaps?). I was wondering if the frame mount should be between plates #1 and #9. Thanks

Good morning, Don and all,
Light snow here this morning. So far we've dodged the bullet much better than a lot of parts of the country. Aroostook County doesn't have many major weather crisises, but when we do get hit (like the flooding after last winter's almost 200" of snow) we get hit hard! Have a great day!
