Brian, I have a Uni-Tatch blade on my JD140. Very well built and very easy to store as you can easily remove the entire blade off from the hydraulic cylinder frame. This in my opinion is it's best feature. I made some sides for mine.

Good attachments if you can find them. Not sure if they made any for CC or not.

Kraig Yes that is a peavy Amp in the back grown.
I play a USA made 83 Strat through it..Do You Play Guitar?? Jeff U

too bad manufactures couldnt have come up with a universal attachment system. too bad i just couldnt take my jd attachment and stick them on my cub. by the way nice 140, is it an H3? 140 H3's are nice tractors. one of the first with differential braking system? so many tractors with so many specific attachments. it gets confusing. at least cub cadet attachments are the same regardless if its a gear drive or a hydrostatic. the situation over at camp deere i much worse. if you own a 140 those attachments wont fit on a 112 and visa versa. both are good tractors but the attachment situation as it existed sucks.

is my 147 like the cub cadet similar to the 140 but in the cub cadet line? are they about the same weight/strength?

someone told me that a gear drive tractor looses less power than a belt drive drivetrain is this true? also how does the shaft drive of the 147 compare to the belt/varaitor drive of the 112 im currently using. besides not having to replace belts, is there a significant advantage? the belts used on good garden tractors are not the cheap lawn tractor variety, they are usually much heavier duty but more expensive to replace. most good garden tractors use 2 shorter belts instead of 1 long belt, i think this is better.

anyways the question is, is shaft drive any better than belt drive, belt replacement aside. is it any better from a working standpoint or is it about the same?

It seems to me the yellow and white bear is being poked this morning.

ANDREW - I agree with Matt & Kraig. Dave R knows his Kohlers but if it was me, I'd still only bore the K301 as little as necessary to get a good round straight cylinder.

With some porting, maybe a cam, planing the head, careful tuning, a K301 can make good HP and still be fairly efficient. The OHV engines will always be more efficient, it's all a matter of Physics, but the cam timing and tuning of the old K-series Kohlers towards low end torque makes them a great working engine.

I built up a K321 to the Killer Kohler spec's about 4 yrs ago and put a K361 cam in and if I had it to do over again I would keep the stock cam. The longer duration really effects the idle & low rpm performance. But once you wind it up, which only takes a fraction of a second since it's a small flywheel engine, It's a BEAST.

Yeah, I'd say a 147 compares really well to a 140, the little deare has the hydraulics & steering brakes. The CC 149 was able to get hyd also, up to two spools. The hydro drivetrain is BULLET-PROOF. I have steering brakes on my 982 and they are handy sometimes, but who ever uses brakes to stop a hydro?

The variator is kinda a neat feature, but they seem to be like the Torque-Amplifier on full size IH ag tractors, they work awhile then need repair. Except the T/A's last longer. The GD CC's are just about totally bullet-proof also. The biggest problem you will see with them is the 1/4 in. dia roll pins breaking/shearing in the front of the rear drive coupler on the larger HP tractors. And the mating 1/4" dia hole on the back end of the driveshaft egg-shapes about every 1000-1500 operating hours, so many make their own driveshafts from prehardened 4140 or Stressproof steel round bar. Not sure how long those last, Nobody has wore one out yet.

STEVE B. - Thanks for the RAMMING Speed pic's. Yep, things have sure changed....even in the last two hours. I don't have any drifts as big as KRAIG's.... YET. But Mother Nature is still working on them. Just heard the weather girl say they had a 53 mph wind gust in RACINE, WI. I'm happy for them! Snowing an inch an hour there too.

Denny

Can you find some pictures of some Yellow and White ? All this GREEN in here.IH could have made rock shaft pins come out easier lol.

Dennis,,, I seem to remember you have much bigger toys for moving snow.

I think my computer has been hit by a "green" virus. If this keeps up I will need to call the "cub" squad to fix it.

DONALD, JERRY - How about some pic's of IH 2150 ? Wife has the camera out, maybe I can have her take a few pic's of my SUPER H earning it's keep?

SON took some video about 3 yrs ago of me pushing around two FEET deep snow from about a 15-17 inch snow that closed my and his workplace for the day. Unfortunately it never made it onto Youtube.

I also agree with the K301 rebuild. When I did mine in my 129, I had it bored .020 oversized. I also had the cam reground to cheater specs and the head was filed down a good .050 to get it flat again. I bought a 149 a few years later with a new shortblock in it. The 129 actually had more power than the 149. The only problem I had was the first year it would not start due to the ACR not working. It had so much compression it would start hard. That 129 would keep right up with 149's, and a few 169's and 782's at the plow days that I attended. I also have the option of reboring to .030 if need be in the future or even go to the k321 piston. When that happens, I will do more of the porting at that time.

Kraig, I know what you are going through with PTO clutches. I was having the same problem with the 129 until I got a clutch with the double flat springs. That clutch seems to be taking the power better.

DON T. with all that snow in the upper areas maybe Canada will declare the area of Charlies house as part of their Provinces...no more import taxes on your stuff!!

KRAIG+ART..get to downtown Minniap and help get the snow off your sports arena...it collapsed ya know. Now no Vikings/Giants football game to watch.

WES - How's things down your way?

I remember WYATT posted pic's of the K321 block he had ported for his Wheatland Special PD tractor. (I think, maybe he just e-mail'd them to me) Maybe if we're real nice KRAIG can dig them up and post them.

If I get some pic's of me moving snow today/tonight you guys better not laugh at my tractor, it's not fancy but at least it's IH RED.

Just drove back from church in a white out. Only supposed to get 2 inches, but there is enough existing snow (what's left of 6")and it's blowing so bad that it will be a mess around here all day. Driveway is already drifting up, btu we won't have it anywhere near as bad as our brothers to the north!!!

Denny,

Ramming speed takes on a whole new meaning with the 2072 and Haban blade....the difference between it and a std. 42" IH blade on a Cub is about the same as between am IDOT tandem and a pickup....big 20hp just snorts a little and the drift goes "poof".....
