I think I nailed that down to a telescope ,google gave me this (the eyepiece of my 70mm Televue f/7.8 Ranger refractor) or 20" F/5 . That must be quite the machine. Can you also take pictures ?I think the attachment (black)bracket on the side would be for the pointer .,I hope i`am not out to lunch on this lol.

I find that the "O", with it's narrow tires/tread design, tracks better and doesn't need chains. It helps that my driveway slants away from the garage, but, all my wider turf tires need chains; and I don't want to mark up the driveway. . .

Ray, the photos of your Original with the dozer blade makes me want to get my dozer blade refurbished to use on K4K. (OK, it actually reminded me that I have it.

) I have the old style non-trip blade. It was actually on the Original that Bryan had. Bryan sold it to me (at a price so low I still feel a bit like I stole it from him, same goes for the 38" timed mower deck he sold me.) I really don't have any excuse for not having it done. It was cleaned up and primed when I got it from Bryan. I also have the top extension aka "snow deflector" for it that I bought from Travis. It's a reproduction part that Dan H. made. I think I might be missing the lift rod for it. I guess I better take inventory.

And here's a photo of the actual blade that I now have way back when it was new. Bryan got this old photo from the original owner that he bought the Original from. Note that the rear tires/rims only have 3 bolts installed in the hub.

Well, we're into day 5 on this blizzard... it was snowing so hard last night, I literaly could not see to drive down the road more than 5-10 mph... I was following ruts in the snow w/ the 4-ways on... we have about 30" on the ground, with 8" due by tonight... Went out to the truck this morning and it had a flat... Grrr. I wish the cub was together...

Charlie, I saw those side extensions that Aaron posted in the "Cool IH Cub Cadets Not OEM but better'n' new!!!" forum area. He posted photos of his new drift cutters as well. He mentioned the top extension but didn't post a photo of it. Nice to see what it looks like.

I need to get some of those!!! The lack of vertical height on QA throwers is one of it's few drawbacks, IMO...

Kraig,
Those are great shots of the O. Never saw Bryan wearing the straw hat though. . .

I was never going to use my Original for snow work so I sold the blade that came with it. But when the engine on my 147 grenaded a summer ago, I turned to the O and mounted the cw-36 on it. The thrower heated up the used pto to a point where it was starting to glow. So I punted and put on the blade that came with the 147 onto the O. I'll put the CW-36 onto the 100 once I get the carb rebuilt.

Had to notch the bracket on the frame that connects to the lift arm rod.

Ray, I don't think Bryan got the hat with the Original. Bryan in that straw hat, now that would be a sight to see.

Scott, if you have to deal with drifts then yep, the QA thrower isn't high enough. It'll drift in at my place once in a while but it's been a few years since I've had to deal with really high drifts. I could have used that extension on the old QA42 back in the early 1980's when this photo was taken. This was at my parent's farm back when the 125 was still theirs.

The lift rod you spoke of for the Original. Is that the rod that sticks out of the frame on an Original in the front off to the side. Let me know if you find if you have one. I think my 62 has on on it and its yours if you need it. Let me know an I`ll ship it to ya.

Don, That would be awesome. THANK YOU!!!

Yes, it's the one that fits inside the frame. Item # 11 in the parts drawing I posted below. It should have a 90 degree bend on one end and an "eye" bend on the other end with a gentle "S" curve to the main rod length. Give me a few days to look around the shed and garage to see if I can find it. I know it isn't with the rest of my lift rods.

Charlie, I see that!! They're reasonably priced, too!

I think this rod is what you are talking about?

Its on my 1962 Original , Let me know . Thanks

Kraig, those are some cool pics of the "O" being used back in the day.
We have some big drifts,5 1/2 feet high, school has been cancelled for the kids for the last 3 days.London which is about 1.5 hours south of us has gotten 1.5 meters(for Don T.)/59"(southern neighbours) of snow.
Also I'm looking at getting a 1650 with snow blade, weights and chains. The owner is asking $1300.I haven't gone to look at it yet but he has done quite a bit of restoration work, paint, decals, new hydro pump, ags all around etc.
Is there anything else to look at for wear items other than the ISO mounts.
Thanks
Dave

With all this talk of plowing with originals, I thought I would post a couple picture's of mine from yesterday morning after I got done moving the 8" of snow we got. Wish I had one of the top extensions, the snow came over the top a couple times.

Eric,
Nice shots. "0"'s are cool. There are times I think it was IH's best effort. Many will disagree with that for all kinds of reasons, BUT, they're A) easy to work on and B) I fit best on them. (even though they're not slant grills)

Dave C., WOW that's a lot of snow!

Eric F., cool photos! How well does the non-trip style blade work in the snow? With it's rather straight shape I would think the snow wouldn't curl off of it very well.
