Dennis - there must be 30 posts on here about issues with Don T's clutch assembly. I really didn't want ole Bill "Double Q" going thru all that. The slush box hydro works soooooooooo much nicer, and usually only requires a "once in a life time" trunion repair. There's no thro-out bearing to replace, no teaser spring clanking around, no clutch disc separation or noisy clanking pressure plates cause the little springs came flying off, no big tension spring to crack/snap in half, no wallowed driveshaft to replace, and no wear and tear on your ole knee joint pushing that clutch pedal all the time. GO HYDROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

(But I did say the 1200 with a K341AQS transplant sounded cool, and I wish I had one. I'd make sure mine had the lower aluminum grill housing and be out there popping wheelies - probably bust the front axle coming down - wonder if Nitrogen in the front tires would make any difference, do those bigger molecules bounce better?)

I can agree on the fact that a hydro drive IH Cub Cadet is in fact very appreciable and operator-friendly garden tractor to operate. But, yet the gear tractors should not be under sold. I believe there are a many first generation narrow frame gear drive still plugging away! Not this die-hard IH Cub Cadet enthusiast! No way will I part with all gear drive in my stable! At some point, I will resurrect my 1250! MY 72 now has it's first clutch component replacement, not bad after 46 years, lol!

Harry your post is the WHOLE reason I converted over to Hyros

Left turn...

I'm amazed at how some of you folks have one or two IHCC's and that's it! No need (probably even want) for another one - happy campers. Some have a large fleet - cool! I'm happy with the 3 IHCC's I've got the 1650 w/14 hp engine, the 126 and 109.

But...

For whatever reason, the itch is ever present to find the perfect IHCC - for me. I am leary of the complexity of the 82 series under the engine hood. Really like the yellow/white color scheme (again for me). I like the looks of the 126, but ain't to crazy with the narrow frame and servicing it (though I'm still in a great learning curve on these tractors). I like the 109, very thrifty on gas, but like the looks and RH hydro lever on the 1650. As painful as it has been getting this 1650 together and making a running/working tractor - I can't put my finger on it, but I think it's my favorite of the IHCC's I've had so far.

Sooner or later I've got to thin the fleet of one of these IHCC's and probably one or two of my other color tractors - but when and if that time comes, I want to cull out probably two IHCC's that I'll hang on for a long time. Mixed up in that equation is - I have a hankerin' for upfitting these tractors with parts that while might not be necessary, would make for a nice tractor. I also like the ability to mix and match parts within a tractor series and outside of it to some extent.

Soooo - here's what I'm thinking. What if I settle on the QL tractors. One hydro and one gear drive. It is a must that both be able to run 50 inch decks. I like the earlier QL series cast iron front grill and cast iron rear end, including (I think) axle housings. From the later QL's, I like the steering wheel design, the 1 inch spindles and internal brakes on the rear end. For the hydro, it would be nice to have dual hydro set-up.

I can't say I'm crazy about the 16 hp engines - yet, but than again haven't used one either. Between gas mileage and vibration, I wonder if for a worker tractor if the 14 hp would get the job done on all fronts.

There seem to be plenty of QL tractors from which to "build-up" a couple of QL tractors for me. I could see where for not to many $$$'s, I could load up on common parts, decks, even a few engines - 14 or 16 hp. I would definitely outfit the gear drive tractor with a 14 or 16 hp engine. Both hydro and gear drives would have a 3 point hitch and brinly plow attachment.

Any suggestions for the "perfect QL" tractor?

Kind of like a kid with the Sears Christmas catalog - what to do next on the IHCC journey...

Dennis,
I never said it didn't expand. I said it expands ALOT less than standard compressed air.

Bill "J", If you looking for a sweet gear drive QL, go with the 1200. I had one once and a guy with a big hand full of dead presidents made it jump onto his trailer. I should have NEVER let it go!

Was plowing with the 149 today and much to my surprise the plow fell off! Here are a couple of pics.

A PO replaced the original pin with a bolt and when the plow tripped if fell off. Will be posting in wanted section for some replacement parts.

Luckily the 72 was set up and ready to run. The K181 engine has more guts than the old K161 it replaced this summer.

Opinions, opinions, opinions. In my opinion, opinions are good! Cub Cadet: If it's available and in your price range, get it. (Cheaper than a '67 Camaro). Other colors - if their cheap and you can part them, do it. (I just saw a complete front axle from a Ford 120 go for a net of $120).
Since 1961 these Cub Cadets have been being built. So in 1981 IH sold out - the Cub Cadet name has lived on. Now, some of us that couldn't even think of affording one "back then" have a chance to own one. Or 2. Or 3. Or many. God Bless those with grandchildren! My train of thought has left the tracks, again.

Tom,,
I also had a 1200 that a guy handed me some dead presidents for and it jumped on his trailer..

And I also think about that 1200 the same way..
