Thanks Frank ; I printed off that for the shop.

Mike F ; that would make a total of 13 batteries and yes I have to buy two or three every year to keep my tractors running.

I thought some gear drive member might post why my clutch petal is down close to the foot plate. Then I might know where to look or what to look at. But I will find My way . out it comes and check everything ; clean and replace what I think it might be . Install and adjust > Done

Don...

Missing the clutch return spring?
I only have 4 or 5 batteries, I do the battery shuffle!

I did have a look for that after I printed off the instructions and decided to pull the engine and remove the drive assembly take it all apart and clean it up. I do have some new parts here that were for my O ; but they might find there way on this tractor. I will have the gear drives all down pat after this: That is another reason to remove the drive shaft and have a look see. I know that pin is going to be a pain on the rear of the drive shaft . I`ll get er done lol.

Well I got something done today. The drive shaft is next !

I did I think find the problem with my Clutch. NO teaser spring . It is MIA ! would that be my problem ?

I don't think it would bring the petal all the way back up, but it sure makes it harder to get in gear when that spring goes missing or broken.

I suspect it was just waaay out if adjustment.

The return spring is there and connected as the directions Frank posted in the FAQ . It might be way out of adjustment but I will install a new teaser spring and try to adjust it. Thanks guys ; this will be my first gear drive system I have worked on. all my other gear drives work perfect as they should. I have never adjusted any of the O or my 100.

DT, Are you talking about the teaser spring or the return spring?? The return spring attaches from the frame crossmember to the brake rod. As shown in illst. 2-12 it's shown just below the clutch spring and slightly to the right. The returen spring isn't even identified in that FAQ page

Tom ,the return spring is visible in illustration 2-12 of the faq. I did not see any teaser spring and will take it apart and add a new one I have here in my parts box. When I looked for the return spring I knew what to look for because my 129 and 149 have the same spring.

Today I bought sand paper and primer so I can finish my 125 and install the mower deck that has already been restored.I have put the 125 on the back burner for too long and I have hopes this winter to get my 125 and the 61 O ready for summer running. I will install a great working 10 Kohler in the 102 for now out of my 109 and replace the head gasket and go over the k301 to put back into the 102 later in the spring. I had a great day and love the shop time I had today. Frank C has a Cab for my 1512 and we made a deal last night so I can put a 450 snow blower on my 1512 diesel . Life is good !

Don, does the return spring have the proper tension? Stated a few other ways, it isn't stretched out is it? Or it hasn't lost it's springiness? Or has the spring been sprung?

Kraig

I will measure the spring and see if it is the same length as the other springs on my other cubs. I bet IH did use the same spring for all there Cubs they built. I will report back at another day. It is 1.25 am here and my bed is calling me . I do know that spring on my 125 was a strong spring and hard to install.

Don I think the clutch shaft connections thru the fram just need lubed up so they will operate freely and clean or replace the driveshaft if it has excessive wear. Along with the teaser and adjustment you will have a great working clutch.

Don-

It's probably a long shot but if all else fails check for roll pin issues in the rockshaft. The spring travel isn't that long and I would guess the spring would break before stretching. I've never seen one stretched but I'm sure anything is possible.

I haven't posted in a while because I've been quite busy. I have managed to keep up with reading the forum and keeping up with the tire inflation issues. It makes me want to run out and check my 100+ tires. I haven't been able to do any cub work for a while now but that will change soon. My last "investment" (982) is still on the trailer. The weather here has been very nice for a couple of days then rain for a week or so or at least cloudy as all get out. Clouds keep me in a pissy mood. The only cub time has been with my 108/128 pulling the leaves to the woods and garden. Next year I hope to be able to stay on the tractor while getting the leaves up with a vac system, stay on the tractor when dumping leaves, and be on another tractor spreading them in the garden where I'll use a tractor to turn them in. That would make life good.

I hope everyone out in the Midwest has "weathered" this last storm ok. From what I hear it's been a bytch! It will be here Sunday with highs predicted to be in the 30s and that's cold for us southerners.

Don T., I was just thinking that you should also check the hinge point for clutch lever also, I have seen some tractors have bent or broken metal and then the column flexs forcing the adjustment screw to be made longer and longer to make the clutch release. There used to be a write-up somewhere here but I haven't found it yet.. I'll look some more.

DON T. - Don't you need a Special Permit from the EPA to store all thouse batteries with all the acid and hydrogen gas emmissions?

NIC B. - Your comment about Nitrogen not expanding as it gets hotter is in complete disagreement with Charles's LAW. http://library.thinkquest.org/12596/charles.html

Bill "Double Q" J - hey forget dropping that 16hp into a 1200, or you'll be going thru all this clutch problem stuff these guys are talking about here (although it does sound cool and Tom H, Mr. Gear Head, is a big nut on it). And also that 14hp is plenty for the 50inch deck. I used a 1450 with 50 deck for over a decade, mowed an acre of wetlands grass and had plenty of power. Did make the first pass with the deck raised fully if the grass was over 8-10". My biggest problem was the bog grass catching the between the deck and tire, so I'd be stuck, and even raising the deck wasn't enough to get around it. I'd have to get an ax out to chop those bogs - or sometimes I could put the hydro in slow and lift the edge of the deck past the bog. Lots of fun with that 14hp. So, what to do what to do - look for some 1450 dash decals for your QL.

Harry,
Cutting the "Bog grass" in 3 gear too? Oh wait...that was Jim "S", you wouldn't have a gear drive.

HARRY - What do you mean by this, "or you'll be going thru all this clutch problem stuff these guys are talking"?

Please explain...
