Seems from what I've read and looked at that it's Pretty common to see 23x10.5 ag's on 8.5" rims, it also seems fairly common to see 26x12's mounted on 8.5" 9", 10", and even 12" rims.

I think those Tire Manufacturer Recommendations are actually just THAT, Recommendations.

Anyway the ratchet strap worked a treat!

I guess that's pretty much the official "unofficial" route if no access to tire changing equipment!

Prolly gonna mow w/ turfs this weekend before I slap'em on the 149, that will give me time to make inside mounts for deck wheels before next mowing!

So today, saturday I got rid of my rer 55, and got my real cub cadet, a 128.
now im wondering if i can switch my cub over to hydrostatic drive instead of having gear, becasue I was too late to get that guy's 149.

Austin: You could, but why?
happy.gif

Now I have to edit: That's a decent looking 128 (from here) and the gear drives have their place in our society, too.

While I can keep on editing, I'm glad to hear that you have a "real" garden tractor and hope that you will keep it until a 149 comes along.

Frank is correct, Also from what little experience I have swapping hydro's / trans / and rears, plus what ever linkages that would be required, seems like "unless" you have a unit sitting handy, ready for the swap???? Wait for another 149 to come along while you tinker on the 128,,,
happy.gif

In my experience the cost of the swap would pretty much get you a "Decent" 149, up here in the Midwest Anyway!!!
Just my \clipart {two cents}!

Well I did get a good price on the 128 for around 200$ but there was a 149 just north of me and the other guy wanted x3 what i gave for the 128, and it had no deck or anything. but the guy couldnt get it to run so i asked the guy that had sold the 149 and he happened to have this, yea it would cost me a bit of cash to swap it, but yet again it would be a project for me and would be neat to see.

Well I couldn't Wait,

Just had to "SEE" what kinda clearance there "MIGHT" be!!!

The very shallow offset of the original 7" rims really moves the entire wheel out farther from the rear end.....

Guess I'll put turf's back on 2moro for mowing duty!

I'll move deck wheels inside another day, that will be an entire different novel,

Jeff B. Will chime in on this one for sure! Seeing how you purchased the 128 and need a HYDRO ASAP!

roflol.gif

The swap would Definitely be a Significant project, especially if your needing a hydro asap....

I can't believe you Got Rid off the 55, LoL was it working?
I'm sure a hydro will pop up much sooner in your price range than you would spend time and money wise on the swap,

Jason- I think I'd move them out instead of in. Looks like a cut in the top of the bracket and a little bending to put an offset in the bracket could get the clearance you need. Then weld up the cut. I've never had one with the wheels inside but I would think it would make it hard to slide the deck out the side without lifting the front of the tractor.

If you go out, make sure you have a smooth skid plate on the inside, those decks WILL side shift in operation and your new tires WILL get eaten up by the wheel bolt and bracket. BTDT!!!!!

how about a 50" deck

Jason -
I got rid of the 55, becasue I cant have more than one tractor else someone in my family will get pissy. and it did ran. Sadly I didnt get what I want out of it. and put alot more money than expected in it. And for the 1450, it sposlily not running but the guy wants double what I payed for the 128. Then with a 1450 I can just swap out the engine and hood and make it a 149 like my oringal plan. and this is kinda like a school project

Austin -

SchooL projects are cooL, no doubt about that! And I'm sure you are aware that "making" a 1450 appear like a 149 will get just a little more involved than hood/motor,,, Really sounds like you had your heart set on a 149, Sure either Conversion 128 or 1450 would be Fun, Challenging, Interesting, Time Consuming, and a Neat Project but from just and only my experience alone refurbing or restoring an actual 149 would be just as fulfilling with a lot less

ing along the way!!!!
Either route you take I would love to "SEE" your Decision and Progress!!!

I could also like add the s/g then sell it then I could buy a 149 from ray weaver, bc I kinda did have my heart set out on a 149. But yesterday i was looking at a 149, would have gotten it but my dad said the air filter was very greasy, and I didnt look at the air breather if there is one. but I would just buy one from ray in pa

Jason -
I might just go with making a 128 into a 129 then I will be happy with that. As I love wide frames but dislike gear driven. But if like a 149 shows up in my area in a few couple months I might just go buy that

Austin,
1a_scratchhead.gif
you will need a donor 129 to make a 128 into a 129

That pic of Austin's 128 Looks like it's "pretty much" all there!
And it also appears to be in Pretty Darn decent shape also!!!
Looks much better than my 149 did at purchase!!!!
Austin in my opinion and to reiterate what others have said already,,, that 128 should remain a 128!
You could do a very mild refurb get'er runnin good without hurting ur pockets to bad, then Sale or trade for what Your Heart Desires!!!!!

I kinda been going thru some stupid ideas lately, and I would say the best thing to do this 128 is get it running with the starter which cost me 70$ then I would sell it at 400$ then I would make 130$ profit then I could just go buy a 149 from ray in pa I would say that be the best thing to do. But I just been thinking of ideas that shouldnt be in my head haha

But I do have a question for you guys, my dad says a engine with dirty air breather its a bad engine. Are there any air breathers on a cub engine or is it only briggs? or he means dirty air filter is bad engine. but im sure most engines get there fitler dirty, so im sure its common for it dirty. and its one of the reason my dad talked me out of getting the first 149 i saw, which was 600$ with no deck and it had a lift in the back. Dad said it would cost me bit more to rebuild. But with me buying this 128, I could flip it to this guy this parts seller. then maybe end up with a 149.
