Chris: Cute helper!!
Kent: I think Charlie's trying to show you the difference in the colors - head one color, wall a different shade.
Here's the 149 that "appeared" yesterday.

I think it may be just the paint on the rear end and axles, right??? IH red and CCC black??
I mean really I have no idea. Those are way too new for what I'm used to. Ha!

Thanks Matt,
I plan on looking at one tomorrow and just want to know my stuff.
Thanks.
Anything else I need to know?

Kent S: B - u - t, a Brownsville TN, made CCC tractor (red or yellow/white) with a serial number from 700,001 - 719,999 should have a IH made Cast-Iron differential... CCC got lots (!) of parts from IH. Having a magnet handy is very helpful.

Nice deal on the 149 Frank. I snagged one today also. It runs with no smoke or noises but most everything needs TLC. I'll get into it in a major way tomorrow and start making a list of needed parts.
The first picture is of where I found it.

Hi Guys,
I need some help.
I recently picked up a 154 loboy and am having a few problem.
I figure this would be the place to come. First off. I would like to say, I love this tractor... Now for the problems. It has smoke coming out of the dip stick tube running to the oil pan. Not sure what that is all about but it is probably not good. Next, It seems to be grosely underpowered just cutting grass that is 4~5 inches high?? I have been on one before that ran great so I am sure this probably relates back to the smoke from the dip stick somehow?? Lastly, the rear pto for the deck will not stay engaged. The guy that I purcahsed it from was using a pair of vice grips to hold it in place and said that every now and again while you are mowing you will need to lift up on the handle and set it back down to keep it going. This cub is in great shape. It was a one owner machine for the last 38 years and I have all the owners manuals and service records for everything.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

The loader is sort of working. I added hydraulic fluid 7 times (there's about 6 1/2 quarts in it now), and I spun the pump by hand until it started turning with more resistance to prime it. I started it and the tilt works pretty good, but I managed to switch the hoses for the lift cylinders, so it's backwards and fighting the restricted swivels in two of the lines that prevent the bucket from lowering too quickly. After I switch those around, it should work fine. I haven't found any major leaks yet. I had one sort of loose return line that leaked at first, but hasn't since I tightened it. One tilt cylinder was drooling a bit, but the drip was very dirty, so I'm hoping that was assembly oil from something washing out some dirt that was still in there somewhere.

I also need to figure out why the tractor's charging system no longer works

Dennis - I don't know where I heard that IH had 3 hardware plants. Did I mis-read something about West Pullman tho?? Did you change from using the IH stamping to WP when they started selling outside IH???

Richard T - well, looks like you got some work there. Hope those fenders and foot rest areas aren't rotted thru. Looks like the main mowing deck shell may have some holes, but since it's mostly square stamped you might be able to still work with it. Looks like the rest of the 149 is just kinda tired and well used. Lot of life still in it if you re-activate it.

Frank - your 149 looks pretty decent for just showing up on the other side of the fence. Funny how easy they are to corral.

Richard,
Nice find,Wheel weights!!!

Looks like it is missing a middle finger...
I got the 123 running today, smokes a little but it runs!!.

Lewis: I'd be surprised if it DIDN'T "smoke a little".
Richard: This 149 comes under the classification of "2 too many", but ya gotta get 'em when the gettin's good! I took it out back and stored it with the "1 too many" 125 for later attention. Parts Lookup says I can use the steering column/box from a 1200 that I'm parting, so that's high on the to do list.
Harry: Funny you should mention a herd - I've got the old pasture very well mowed with Penny (123) - 1.5 acres in 2 hours - and planning to take a pic of all the Cubs "grazing" in the near future. Summer's fast getting gone!

Wilbur: If you're serious about that great aerial view, I've got to ask "What back window"? The camper?

Frank C lol
Of course from my camper back window lol. The provincial camp ground called Valley View in the Annapolis Valley Nova Scotia of course. Here are a few more. I just might have a picture of a MOtt frail mower to post in the morning.

Any suggestions on what to look for on my 1250 manual deck lift. It seems that I can't get it to lift high enough. The lift handle does not seem to have a lot of travel rearward to the operator. Goes plenty low enough. The deck is a 44A.
My 149 with hydro lift goes way higher. Any suggestions would be a great help.
Thanks, Mark

Just wanted to let you all know I finally completed the installation of my M18 in my 682. When I had about 800 hrs. on the KT17 series I, I started shopping for this M18. Found one on Ebay and picked it up in East Texas. It was in running condition but in sorry shape. The bolts holding on the sheet metal shrouding was corroded & snapped right off, so I spent more than I expected because I had to take it to a machine shop to get them fixed. I decided to rebuild it, but had to get extra cylinders because the existing ones were out of tolerance. Took it to a Kohler repair station for valve grinding & setting but he botched the job. After three attempts, he refused to make it right, so took it someplace else. I had the completed engine sitting there & finally decided to make the swap. With a lot of help from Steve Blunier and you guys on the forum, I made it and it runs like a sewing machine! I had fun doing it and got a lot of satisfaction from this experience (learned a lot, too). If it weren’t for you guys help and experience, I wouldn’t have attempted anything like this.

Thanks Forum!

BTW, that Series I engine had over 1200 hours on it and I never had a major problem. Who says the Series I engines aren’t good engines! I’m thinking about rebuilding it now.

DAVE R. - I used to get a L-O-T of tires from the GY warehouse in Rock Falls, also direct from Kelly-Springfield in Freeport, think there was a warehouse around Rockford too. ALL large rear farm tires, the frts from GY all came from Akron. By the time I got involved with tires & wheels all the Firestone tires came from their plant in Des Moines. Also the few Armstrong tires IH used came from their plant on the other side of Des Moines (closer to the fairgrounds). BFG's big plant was in Miami, Oklahoma and they had warehouses in Neosho, Missouri, I even got to haul a load of tires out of there once, HUGE cave in the side of a hill, Guy that loaded me said it extended back seven miles into the hillsides. Millions of square feet of storage. BFG also stored tires in Dubuque, IA, and their main warehouse & offices were in Franklin Park, IL. I had the honor of moving ALL those tires out of that warehouse, six piggy-back trailer-loads a day for a couple months over to the Milwaukee RR piggy-back yard a mile away. They all went to Kansas City except for a couple loads that got detoured to Dubuque. I got pretty good at dropping & hooking up to trailers. I was already able to drop & hook in a minute or two but I perfected the art. Loads of tires were great for my little semi-tractor, a load of rears only weighed 12,000 to 15,000# and straight load of frts maybe 20,000#. My little horse acted like a real BIG truck with those light loads.

I found out from my Firestone contact the name of the girl who did my tire & wheel buying job at Waterloo. Turns out she sat Behind me in Spanish Class my Junior & Senior years in HS. Small world!

Welcome Jared!!

Your post 'prolly should go into the off-topic tractor or bigger relatives section, after all, we don't want to poke the bear...
animatedihbear.gif

At the risk of the above, I'd say you have a blow-by issue, do a compression test. It may be stuck rings. IIRC, the low boys were down on power from the get-go....

To un-poke, The 3-H weather here has broke, and hope to get out the spray gun to paint a whole lot of misc parts today... wish me luck.

I would check the pins in the rock shaft and also the one holding the lift handle casting on the outside of the frame. They are notorious for breaking. They also woller out the holes where the pins go through and it's hard to tell what's goofy unless you take things apart.
