"Frank did the engine "fire" and make a revolution or two? Or do you think the starter was turning it? Not trying to be cute here but trying to figure it out. thanks"

the engine cranked, and i do not see how it could do that without the starter, so i am certain the starter turned it.

i could try to to get it to do it again tomorrow and watch the starter. but it cranked.

"Frank S. You should have 12 volts on the negative side of the coil with the points open and 0 volts when the points close. So, your test light should light with the points open and go out with the points closed. The points are supposed to ground the negative side of the coil. If the voltage doesn't go to zero you're not getting contact through your points. In that case, drag a dollar bill through them and see if that helps."

since the light does not light when connected to the negative side of the coil with the engine cranking, my points are not opening.
tomorrow, i will try loosening the adjusting screw on the points and move the adjustment from one extreme to the other and see if the test light comes on, that should rule out defective points.

i hate to ask, but i, like the rest of us, have done really stupid things, so, just in case, is there anyway i could have screwed up these points? install upside down or backwards? misunderstand the adjustment?
it is just one adjustment screw right? it holds one side of the contacts in place, the other side of the contact gets pushed by the plunger in the engine, right? i mean, you cant screw it up, can you?

Frank, connect your light to the negative side of the coil and use your finger to open the points. The light should come on.

I don't think there's much of a way you can screw up the points. It sounds like you might not have them adjusted correctly. They have to open and close as you rotate the engine by hand. Good luck.

Say Fellas,

My son has an CC 86 which is getting tired.
I might be able to obtain a 126 parts tractor.
Will most of the major pieces (engine & transmission, ??) bolt into the 86 tractor?

I realize that the 86 is a wide-frame and that the 126 is a narrow frame - but I'm thinking that the major drive-train parts would still interchange.... am I correct?

Thanks in Advance, Guys!

I have a 782 CC that during a two day time peroid of nonuse, all the fuel in the fuel tank ended up in the crankcase and the two combustion chambers. The tank was filled to the top and ended up practically empty. Is it possable for the fuel to get into the crankcase thru the fuel pump ??? or would it have to run thru the carburator ??? No other problems with the tractor. It always ran good.

hello guys today i was mowing and ive noticed the engine start blowing smoke out of the muffler and it burned some oil today 2 what could be done to fix this ?

Purchased a 2B tiller recently that was supposedly new. (as far as I can tell the tiller has never seen any earth) The PO bought it from a dealer who had it in the back, but never used it. He gave me a sack of parts to install it.
Here is a pic of the canvass sack and paperwork

It is a large sacked parts kit made by Woods

Does anyone know if this was the way the tiller installation hardware parts were actually shipped?

Rob N.,
Yes, I can believe that is how the parts were shipped.
I have seen parts shipped in burlap bags before.
That doesn't surprise me at all.

Pretty cool that the bag of parts hasn't been lost over all these years...

Dale H.-

Either could do it, but the carb is more likely. Drain out the crankcase, rebuild the carb, install a new float, and inspect the fuel pump. Since the cylinders are full of fuel, I suspect the carb. After you change the oil, remove the spark plugs and put some oil in the cylinders and pull the engine through a few revolutions.

we're hanging in there, my cubs are still in a 1000 pieces, I am tryimg to set up the geee-rage to let me paint the 149 without painting everything else yellow. I really need to get it done before the snow flies, as I am really tired of shoveling the driveway... You should have a Tug-O-war with Dan's Massey-Harris.... I have been taking a break from Scouting, trying to get the cubs and fairlane finished... I've had my eye on a few cubs on CL, especially a 1450 w/ rear PTO...
