OK guys, another quick question. I am putting some missing tin on the engine (K301 AQS) in this 1250. It's the small piece that goes around the intake hole. It wouldn't fit and the reason was someone (PO) had installed a wrong govenor arm. I got a correct arm from another parts engine. I'm ready to install the arm but can't understand what the "tab" is that's suppose to be on the cross/govenor shaft. I understand putting the counterclockwise turn on the shaft but I don't understand exactly where, or how the shaft goes into place. The manual mentions a tab and I have no idea what that means. I see nothing that even ressembles a tab. My question is what are they talking about?

Kentuck, are you out there? Matt? Kraig?

Gary,

The four stud bolts holding the field coil may be a bit difficult to remove. They tend to be rusty and it's difficult to get a wrench on the nut. Plenty of PB blaster helps break 'em loose.

Yeah, I bought my first wide frame - a decent 1450 that needs an engine rebuild. The slinger broke off the connecting rod. The PO said it overheated and the engine seized. I'm guessing for lack of oil. Cylinder doesn't look scored, but I will need to replace the connecting rod and get the cranked turned - If I can ever get this dang blasted flywheel off.

I've tried the harmonic puller with the air wrench (it's still on under pressure) and it hasn't budged. I also applied heat with no change. Any suggestions?

Wayne, does this IH Kohler manual show any different info than your Kohler manual?

Kraig - Which manual has that ?

Bruce - With the puller tight smack the end of the puller shaft nut/head (whatever) with a hammer. Like you're driving it into the crank.
You keep screwing with heat and you wont like it ...

Ryan W:
Using a VOM on a resistance scale, connect one meter probe to a ground on the engine and the other to the negative (-) (points) terminal on the coil. With the key off, rotate the engine in the same direction as it normally runs and watch the meter. When the points are closed, you should see a zero (0) ohms reading on the VOM. When the points open (fire), you will see a high or infinite resistance and this should occur when the "S,SP or T" (depending on engine) mark shows in the timing hole on the right side of the engine... Fire too soon? Close the point gap, Fire too late? open the point gap....

KENtucky, you have an electronic copy in JPG format. You've had it since, oh about October, 2002. Don't tell me you lost that CD.
