Mmmmmmmmmm, been a while, to busy I guess. My brother Jim just took my new motor of the dyno. its happy.

Frank: the Kohler or the Carter are great , actually the same. the Walbro is a waste of time.

years ago a engineer from Bolens claimed 15% was needed to drive a hydro pump. but he did add that there were better pumps coming. this was 20 years ago.

just remember even if a good engine with some extra ponys can overcome the hydro lose if you have others in the class with a gear drive they will still be stronger. if they are on top of things they'll have 3 pulling gears close together that would make it extra tough.

CD , you'll need to change the flywheel & bearing plate to the smaller one. the 12 hp pan will fit in, in a stocker your aluminum drive hub will hold up.

BTW: nice pics, to bad I didn't have a engine

Thanks Don!
The flywheels are actually the same dia., one is thicker that the other. The original engine's flywheel out of the 122 has longer fins.

Does anyone know of a manufactured OR easy to build, lock for the shifter to keep the tranny in gear?
I can't weld & don't have a way to bend other than a torch & vise.
Thanls

I don't think I've ever seen any one make or sell shifter locks. trannys usually tend to have there own detent location in the 3 & 4 speed ones with aftermarket gears so its hard to make one to fit all, then add in all the different shifter styles. you'ld need to supply dementions as to exacly where it should be mounted. I fab them to each tractor when I make one so I'm sure that it will hold in all the gears. one simple thig is to use a bungee cord if its a stocker

Welp,
I need the 800lb clutch spring & aftermarket clutch cover, then I can put her back together! I need to disassemble & sand blast this winter, but I want a least 1 pull this year!

David, Nice pics ya got there...

Steve, I was told the same thing this weekend..Hydros wont pull! It was my first time, so I didn't do all that hot, but I am happy. 78' with only 15 lbs added in the 1000 lb class. Next time, I'll have some weight brackets made and be able to get the power to the ground.

There is another pull coming up in Arden, NC next month that I want to attend and was leary of not being able to pull due to some of the members of my own club saying that they didn't allow hydros. I went to the hosting clubs website and it didn't say it in the rule books, so I'm going.

Chad

Heres some pics of a project I'm doing for a guy. Its an Aluminum SuperCub trans case. and yes it is a true 30 lbs lighter than a stock cast case.
30836.jpg

then add a Half Pint reduction housing
30837.jpg

and what would a super light trans be with out lightend gears
30838.jpg

this is going in a combination Pro Stock , Super Stock tractor. there should be a total weight savings of close to 60 lbs.

Don, I bet what that would lighten most would be one's wallet.)

Don, If its all right with Julian, and you have time, could you get a few more shots of the aluminum case? It doesn’t have the machining (bulge) for the reverse gear right?
