Hi Lonny. what most guys do is add a piece of angle iron from the back side of the dash where the clutch pivot bolts on.

Thanks, Charlie and Don.
I have to do something to streighten it or my new driveshaft and clutch will not last long.
Thanks for the Ideas on how to do it.

Well here how I beefed up my clutch pivot point, aint pretty but it works.

30290.jpg

The alumin clutch disk works to good, have to be carefull letting out the clutch in 2nd or 3rd gear now or it pulls the front wheels off the ground.
Should help out with plowing the garden under in a few weeks, no more clutch slippage.

Yesterday was the Eden Wisconsin tractor pull. A beautiful day for the event. Brought my 1250 to compete in the "Hometown Stock" class.
30397.jpg

My good friend Steve Hedstrom was there with his newly-assembled 582, with Kohler V-twin power.
30398.jpg

It's an absolutely beautiful tractor with first-class workmanship.

I got beat by a Deere!!!! Here is the lineup.
30401.jpg

Here is my hook-up.
30402.jpg

Here we are underway.
30403.jpg

My pull was 123.5 feet, good enough for second place. This Deere won, but not by much.
30404.jpg

I weighed in at 960 lbs, a little light. Next year I'll be closer to the 1050 lb limit.

Steve did very well on his '82 series. He placed third out of a field of eighteen (I believe).

David K., nice photos! I see you didn't even have any wheel weights and you still took 2nd.)

That guy in the top photo checking the hook up of your friend Steve, that looks a lot like Jim Diederichs.

David K,
I guess your like me in the fact that everyone tells me you can't pull with a hydro!

Charlie,

You hear that same story too? My theory is that if you have an engine strong enough to overcome the 3 to 5 percent additional losses in the hydro, then all things are equal. Then you have the huge advantage of infinite ratio change while underway. This year the traction was greatly improved due to the ag tires. Power was more than ample as both wheels were still spinning when the sled stopped. Another 60 pounds would have made a huge difference. That 425 Deere that beat me should have been put in a higher class, but nothing else showed up that he could compete against.

Kraig,

Thank you, and I have more to post tonight. The night before the pull, was mounting my wheel weights when I noticed the carriage bolts were too short by one inch. As they say, don't put things off to the last minute. Lesson learned!
You're right, that is Jim Diederich. He and his family are all top contenders, and the nicest people you could ever hope to meet.

Here's more Eden Wisconsin tractor pull pictures. Another lovely '82 series - builder/driver unknown.

A couple of wild IH pullers, motorcycle engine powered.

This Deere was powered by a three-cylinder two-stroke snowmobile engine complete with CVT belt drive.

This was another nice Deere.

Another nice '82 series - quite popular.

This little guy on a 1200 did a fine job of driving.

Here's Matt Diederich on a Yanmar - pulled very well.

David,

I always figured a bit more than 3-5% loss on the hydro, there is a lot of energy used to pump oil, filter oil, etc. and a lot of oil that is lost in the valve bodies.......

BUT, I will agree that a hydro can be made to do a very respectable job of pulling in most cases.

I always figured that a 129 and a 108 should pull about equally at the drawbar...likewise 149/128, etc.

Steve,

Good point. Several years ago I had some correspondence with a guy from Sauer Sundstrand who sent some performance curves on the hydro. If memory serves correctly, overall efficiency was in the mid 80's - not bad for fluid drive. Don't know what the gear drive trans efficiency is, but I'd bet it's not over 90% in first or second gear where torque is being transmitted through two gear sets.

Thanks David for the nice pics from the Eden,Wi pull, and to Dave and Kraig for the kind words too! Had a great weather day and all turned out well at the pull;as usual too busy to visit enough with my friends!

David, feel free to post additional pictures if you have them,we enjoy looking at them!
You did a quite remarkable job with your 1250 against that big deere! That 425is 20(+)HP of V-twin liquid cooled Kawasaki power against your Kohler and you could run right with him!!

As you mentioned, had we had another hometown stock tractor or two,he would have been in another class, not running against you. You would have easily walked away with the 15HP and under class no doubt. Because of the few entries, all the tractors were lumped together. Still, had you weighed in at 1050# like him,it seemed as if you may have beaten the much bigger deere! As you said, you never ran out of power, just got out"tractioned" since he was at the thousand fifty pound max and you were giving up a good 100+ pounds. Guess we need to work on a weight bracket now! ;-)

Jim,

Unfortunately, the battery gave out on my camera about mid-way through the event. Those are all the pictures I have to post.

Thank you for your encouraging remarks and observations. Next time, weights will be attached.

Several queations. Tractor is a 1966 Cub Cadet 122, no creeper.
I have the engine out of a 126 that I want to use instead of the original engine that has valve & cam problems. The 126 engine has a deep sump oil, pan & the flywheel is bigger. Will this engine work?
I noticed that the pulley on the rear of the engine that the driving plate asy. bolts to is aluminum. Will this hold up on a puller? If not, is there a steel one available?
Thanks
