Hey Marty that's one sweet looking 128. Where did
you find that nice dash, everyone I find the fiberglass is all chewed up from the hood
rubbing on it.

Here's another issue I've never seen before. This is a head bolt washer and it has a raised section in the middle. I used the collar just to steady the washer while taking the pic. This is from a K321 to be used in the 149 I'm currently working on.

Would there be a special bolt position where this is to be used? I paid no attention when dismantling the head.

I forgot to mention that there was only one washer like this. The remaining 8 are just the heavy washers.

.

Maybe the PO lost one of the originals, they are a little thicker than regular hardware washers you know, and had that handy so used it.
or
Broke or lost a head bolt and could only find the length that he used but it was a little too long??

90 degree gear box
When I took off my snow blower I noticed that the bearing in the 90% gear box is history. It is the on the shaft that the pulley is on. I read that it is held on by a C clip, but is it easy to get the old one out.
Thanks for any comments

Pun intended here!

It's a snap with a good pair of snap ring pliers.

Those same pliers take off the gear snap ring, then the one on the underside of the gear. As well as the one on the outside of the gearbox.

Kendal,

All you have to do is find some of this stuff and fix the one you have!

Just build the edges/lip back up.
Take a file and sand paper to reform it, then sand, prime, and paint.

Thanks David-

I was just curious as to whether anyone had seen washers like this doing head work. I'm very familiar with the normal thick washers. I mainly was concerned if one bolt position might require it but apparently not. I've done a lot of head gasket work and have never seen one myself. There were a couple of "newer" grade 8 bolts used in the head as well. I do remember the PO was a lying POS once I got this tractor home. I was also told it hadn't been long since this engine had been gone through/rebuilt so if it smokes like a mosquito fogger I'll know why. It did still have the grenade gears but they're a thing of the past now.

Hi All,
Just purchased my First IH Cub Cadet. Recent Purchase of new home w/ more than 10sq ft of lawn prompted my search and research for a suitable "Riding Mower".
After doing a moderate amount of digging my focus turned "Quickly" from the New Box store Mowers to an Actual piece of equipment that I thought my last more than just a few Years.
With the limited quantities of 169's Available and their asking prices I Finally Decided on the 149. I didn't really care for the Styling features of the QL series or the Electric PTO.
Anyway, finally after viewing several 149's in the Mid West area I happened across one that hadn't been Hacked, Tortured, or Molested and appears to have been maintained by someone mechanically inclined enough to keep tractor in Operable Condition for 40+ yrs.
The CL ad stated runs Great and Everything works as it should.
So after Loading up and Heading to Zanesville Ohio, Sure "nuff" old timer hopped on, Fired the K321A up cold, No Smoke" took off down the field Dropped the Deck, Blasted through about 50yrds of 6"-8" tall grass made u-turn came Back, Disengaged PTO, Shut'er off and I Said "I'll Take IT"
After a Little Discussion I Find out he Purchased this thing Brand New and Had the Original Sales Receipt!
After trip home and unloading further inspection of The "Original Sales Receipt" Tractor and Kohler's serial #'s are Not Listed on The Receipt,,,
Just Wondering if anyone here might have Concerns about missing serials being an issue later down the road if Restoration is ever considered for this oLe Boy!!!
Thanks,

.

Great score, Jason! I wouldn't worry about the serial numbers, but I'd probably take them down and staple them to the bill of sale. You found one of the best Cub Cadet models to start out with!

Hi Jason, Nice to have ya! Looks like a nice 149 to start with, in terms of any up grades and painting you might like to do.

Group: Say, I have a drive line out of a 1450 that has the double flex disk at the pump end. I was wondering if I can directly swap out my current drive line in my #1 1450 which has the earlier single flex disk at the pump end for this double set up I have sitting around. Also, please advise or direct what all parts or components I might need to replace and look out for while going about it all.

I'm taking the double drive line into work today to clean it up in the blaster to better evaluate the condition.

Do it right, in yeller & white!!

Either way though, you really should disassemble and sandblast the whole shebang and start from scratch to get a quality job, but that's just me.
Your rig, your call.

Me, Id vote for originality.
