The two top rings are location speciffic as to which groove and they have a "top" and "bottom". "Upside down" or wrong groove can result in low compression, excessive oil consumption, and shortened ring life.

I've swapped my tillers fron 1X9s to QLs using the IH61959C1 belt in both cases. No problems at all. I have tho dedicated mule drives with adjusting bolts on both sides and the idler pulleys have been modified to point straight back to the right angle gear box. I don't see any reason to pay extra for the IH549250-R1 belt.

Question re. Blades for 1450 44" and 50" decks...

I went a little hog wild last week and bought my first Cubs, having just moved to where I need one. I grew up with QL1200 and have been aching to get into the restoration/collecting scene for years. I ended up with a junker 1650 for a restoration project and a decent 1450 for actual use.

Anyhow, I expect I'll have many questions in the weeks/months ahead. Starting out, I'm looking for recommendations for sources for blades for the 2 decks I ended up with - one a 44 and the other a 50.

Are these still available through the IH dealers? Also, does it require a belt change to go from one deck to another?

Thanks,

-Calvin

Calvin - As for blades Gator Blades are highly liked by several owners. I have 2 decks with them myself. CC Specialties above has them.

Pulley Questions for 1450….

Are different pulleys and/or belts required for different sized decks?

I bought a used 1450 over the weekend. The gentleman who sold it to me buys used Cubs, cleans them up and resells them. He said that they all usually they take 78” inch belts. On the one he sold me it took and 80”. The belt is running fine – I cut about an acre with it. The only issue is the first few times I turned off the PTO the belt slipped off the engine pulley. Backing down on the throttle before turning off deck has taken care of this… The deck the tractor came with is I believe a 44C? (I know it is 44 inches but it is at home and I can’t recall if the sticker says “C” or not, or if this matters…) Anyhow, I’m wondering if different pulley sizes were used. The tractor is in very decent condition and I would guess the original owner would have not used an incorrect pulley for replacement on purpose. The other, thought, since the tractor has a sleeve hitch on it, maybe the original owner was using some other implement that required a different pulley? Were there implements that required pulley changes?

Thanks,

-Calvin

Calvin - I'm sooooooo good I answered your second question before you even asked it !

Some people change the drive pulley on the deck to speed up the blades , sometimes that will give you the wrong belt size. You can see the 2 different pulley sizes in that table, the 4.5" and 5".

I think he just had the wrong belt on there.

Kraig-

I need a view of the brake return spring in a 1250 if you have one. I'm a little confused (imagine that) about the location and if they are different from other wf tractors. I've seen them mounted from the welded bracket (right side) to the rockshaft and I've seen them from the bracket on the left attaching the frame to the trans then to the rockshaft which is a longer spring. What is correct or were there two types of return springs used on this model. The parts lookup wasn't much help but seem to show the short spring mounted on the right side.

My situation today is the rockshaft is too close to the bracket on the right plus the shaft lever is tilted too far back for proper spring attachment/function.

Marvel Mystery Oil & 1450 – run in gas, or also use as oil?

I’ve seen a lot of post recommending the Marvel Mystery Oil for reducing carbon build up. I’m wondering if you guys run it as a gas additive (only) or also use it as a engine lubricant, replacing normal oil as well? (As the Marvel container states it can be used…)

Thanks,

-Calvin
