The Cub Cadet gods have smiled upon me. Someone gave me a 1200 today. He said it ran like a champ twenty years ago but it got parked in the barn because first gear went out on it. I hope it isn't in too bad of condition because this machine looks really stout.

I have to ask if you checked the plug wire to see if is good. Sounds to me like the electrical system is over charging when running . Have you checked the battery to see if it has a shorted cell. I might start the first time ,but does it hold a charge? To burn up all you have used you have to have a dead short somewhere. This can burn points and cause coil issues. Have you checked the starter gen to see what output it is making?Could be a chafed wire also causing a short. I think you have to start at the battery and SG and go from there. My .02 good luck and keep us posted cause I have a need to know also.

How does one hot wire a cub? I would want to disconnect everything and run a few jumpers.Just supply power to the coil from a battery.battery pos to Coil and cross starter gen to start? help??

Harvey-

What kind of coils are you using? If you're using coils without an internal resistor (most automotive coils), this is your problem. The coil needs to have an internal resistor.

Don-

I think Harvey will have a hard time just finding a s/g on his 1250. I think Matt probably hit it with the lack of an internal resistor on the coil. I would also do a major check for ground. Nine coils has to be some kind of a record.

HI,
I move boats in and out of my shop daily. They weigh 800 lbs. to 4000 lbs. I have used a 1200 manual cub and a 2082 super for moving the boats. Both of them have tired transmissions. What cub should I buy to replace my worn cubs? Would a 185 lowboy be good? How about a 2072 or a 982? Were the older international hydro transmissions better than the mtd 2082 series? I really would like to buy an international again, any recommendations? Thanks for your input, I sure do appreciate it. Jeff

well I did not know that a 1250 was a starter engine. So that would mean it has a rectifier?

What is the easiest way to remove driveshaft clutch, so I can remove engine. Getting ready to do a tear down and rebuild on the 128. Also how hard is the K301 to set the timming on. I know some of the briggs engines are a pain.

Charlie, now I understand why i was sent to the corner

but ive seen other people do it. ANYWAYS...it was in the high 70s today worked on fine tuning the 144(124) today also took pto clutch off and disassembled it tonite. Thanks for the info on the lock nuts, which i will have to see where i can get them. No one seemed to know what i was talking about today when i tried to explain it toi the guy in the nuts and bolts isle. He kept saying the only locknuts that are made have the nylon on them. So i proceeded to look satisfied and left the store. happy cubbin to all tomorow( and possibly tonight also)

Matt -
Harvey -

I use to run high voltage on the coil in my Chevy's , it burns the points not the coils.
(Points want 6-9v not 12v)

Are you putting the (+) and (-) in the correct place as that would burn out coils. (BTDT)

Make sure the coil case is grounded to the engine good ... ie ... no paint as insulation.

When I do a stomp down on my 122 it doesent
stop well at all or at any time can I adjust the internal brake or what do I need too replace
to fix this.

WAYNE S. - I went thru THREE coils in one afternoon on the K181 from my 72 when I frst put it on my lawn vac. The one was REALLY awesome. It looked like a mini-volcano with all the oil shooting out of the plug wire spout on the top. That one took the points & condensor along with it. To say the points were "Burned" is an understatement. They looked like someone melted them with a torch!

JEFF D. - I'm pretty sure the 185 CC would still have the manual 3-speed, and their engine clutches can be a problem. I heard years ago the throw-out bearings could be very short-lived.
I thought the 2082 still used the same bullet-proof Sundstrand 15U hydro all the rest of the IH built CC's used. Maybe not. I would think a good 982, 1872, 2072 SGT would move any boat on a hard surface up to your 4000-5000# weight you mention.

Maybe something like a 234 Hydro, 244/254 compact diesel would would be a better solution. They were all available with Front wheel assist but I doubt you really need that for moving boats.

Lucas - Look in your book that you bought from Binder Books and it'll show you how to adjust it.

Well its out to my shop this am to fix a drip from the fuel shut off on my 100 and drain the rear tires , po had not put tubes in them and loaded the tires. I know that is going to be a mess made of the rims. the cal won`t be going back in them I have IH weights to add after I have a look at the rims and fix them up.also the rear fenders to sand and paint on my 1512 D. I think Charlie sent me some little pieces of rubber for the fuel shut off and I see I have another fuel bowl also to replace the leaky one. Have a great day all.
