Got the body off with a lot of pb blaster some heat and a few words. Another power wash, several inches of packrat and mice stuff out and I have my work cut out for me on this one. Pretty rusty everywhere, one IH mower motor and another of unknown origin. Wiring is all there I think but shot. At least it is 70s electronic technology-that is something I can remember a bit of! This will be slow - it will probably be next winter's project. I am back to part time work and family obligations. Good news if everything goes well, we will be first time grandparents this summer! If anyone has any motors or 95 components laying around or any leads-let me know.

Yes, the white one. I thought that the yellow one might be from a GE elec trak, but I reached out to others and they said no. The mounts and blade mounts are different heights and would have made the blades uneven. Might have been the reason it was junked out years ago.

Finally got back to working on the 95 electric RER. I figured if I couldn't get the traction motor working I couldn't restore the rest. Pretty complex wiring, switching etc. But it starts with the motor. I might put a modern controller on it. So the commutator end is great, the drive end not so much. Pb blaster every day for a week, a little heat and finally got the frame off. Used a bearing puller and more pb and finally got the bad bearing off. Everything looks good and I have a bearing coming. The manual warns about the strength of the field magnets - takes both hands and a good pull to get the armature out. Pics follow.

I have an armature stone to run against a rotating armature for my work. You may want to shop for one of those to clean up the armature, or if you're coming to STL, you could have a piece of it. It used to be 4 or 5" long, now it is a few pieces about 1" long. The joys of traveling with fragile items. I have no idea what is SHOULD be called.

Interesting - I have heard of a commutator stone, but not an armature stone. I have tested it for open circuits, but don't have a growler to test for shorts. I normally spin the armature and use fine sandpaper to clean the commutator.
OK, I finally got back to the 95 electric project. I got the traction motor reassembled after cleaning and a new drive end bearing. I bench tested it with 12V and it ran great. So now I am attempting the mower deck motors. They are much worse. I have the IH one off and soaking in pb blaster. I can't even get the unknown motor out of the rusty deck! I think I can modify a less rusty deck for motors but I don't think I can get the motors functioning. Time will tell but right now I have a potential bathtub go kart but it would be fun to mow with it.

I have owned two of the large frame Elec-Traks so not familiar with the E8 and E10's. The motor brushes are easily checked but carefully check the mower magnets for cracks. Magnets can be glued, as I recall. Assume you know about the online ET forums, lotta help there.

I have been reaching out to the electric tractor forums, yes they are helpful. As I suspected, I think I can save the IH motor. It needs a drive end bearing but the unknown motor is to far gone. I had to heat the deck to even remove it. So everyone check your stash to see if you have a IH-57598-C1 for a mower deck motor! If anyone has any leads, let me know. Below is what it looks like.

Wonder if you could adapt an electric golf cart motor for these? Trouble is the older ones are 36 volt and many of the newer ones are 48 volt. I don't know what voltage these mowers are or how many & voltage of the batteries they use.
I used to work on the golf carts where I worked and all the early ones used 6 volt "Traction motor" batteries x6 in series for 36 volts. The newer carts use 8 volt batteries x6 for 48 volts.
Sounds like an expensive project as batteries are not cheap!

OK, went out into the internet and found these are 36 volt and use three 12 volt batts according to the manual I found at this link - https://www.myelec-traks.com/cub95manual.pdf
Yes they are 36V systems. I am looking into a General Electric electrak motor for the mower deck. They are relatively plentiful. I'm still looking for an IH version as well. I have everything to drive it eventually just not the mower deck yet.
On the Elec-Trak site look for Dave Roden. He had an E8 or E10 and God knows how many parts along with full size tractors; he's downsizing and selling all.

Looks like a great source John. He has two different diameters of blade motors and knows which are early, and which are later. You never know. He may be able to help you find an IH unit.
