Well I think its finally happened. The hydro pump on my 169 has gone out. No forward , reverse or lift. I believe these are a Sundstrand pumps. 15 series? Anyone have an idea of how much it would cost to rebuild this pump? Where I may be able to purchase a rebuild kit?

best bet is find a new hydro unit which should be easy just look for a parts 149, post in our classifides

are you positive it's the pump?
if the trunion springs broke free it'll do the same thing.

Like Matt said, check the pins to make sure they are intact.
Easy way is to look and see if the shaft that protrudes from the back of the hydro is turning.
I should be turning all the time when the machine is running.
Have someone hold the lift lever back and take a look.
How is the fluid level?
Sounds like it's time for a little maintenance.
Good luck!

I had the same problem on my 169.All I had two do was to replace the forward and reverse hydro valves.Maybe you have the same problem.

Odd that everything would go south at once though.
Makes me suspect driveline/pin issues first off.
Easy enough to swap out the pump or rear end though if that indeed is the issue here.
Keep us posted.

Sorry for the delay getting back to this post, had a little issue yesterday afternoon. Thanks for all the reply's . Yes I'm pretty sure its the pump itself. The shaft was turning at the rear of the pump. The trunion springs were replaced a couple of years ago and are still in place and look good. Jwickering mentioned the forward and reverse valves? Are these the valves atop the pump withe the relief buttons? or are these internal to the pump? Eitherway I'm guessing its an internal issue.

When was the last time the Hy-Tran and Filter were changed. If the fluid is ancient, it might be so full of “moisture globs” it has filled and plugged the filter.

I’d pull the rear cover and take a look at the fluid, if it’s completely nasty, I would goto TSC, Farm and Fleet, Rural King, etc, pick up a cheep jug of “hyTran equivalent and a filter, even a cheep, it fits but not right Fram would work for this. If I it’s full of sludge, drain and clean out the case. Put on the cheep filter and fill it with the cheep fluid. See if operation is restored. If it then works. I would run it for a couple minutes to help flush everything out. Then drain the cheep fluid, remove the cheep filter. Refill and replace with the proper fluid and filter.

if it didn’t work, then you didn’t use the expensive stuff only to find out it didn’t do anything.

This is just how I would do it. Others may have other ideas.

Those "moisture globs" will be hanging on the insides of the transmission case.
Pull the rear cover and drain, then do a thorough job of cleaning the insides of the case and cover.

Those "globs" are the result of the Hy-Tran doing its job of encapsulation the moisture incurred from temp changes and sweating of the assembly

You might try switching the hydro valves from side to side to see if there is any difference.

Be sure and use the correct filter, not just any cheap thing that will fit.

The valves themselves can be rebuilt, If they have the tits on top make sure they are "popped" up.

It has taken a little time but a friend of mine has disassembled my pump and found that the Cylinder block spring rear washer snap ring is broken. If you look at the pump schematic it is number 14. ( Part # IH-317776-R1 ) It shows to be no longer available. My question, Is there an alternative replacement snap ring that will work? Anyone has any information I would greatly appreciate it.

Thought that spring retainer looked familiar. Spirolox by Smalley.com. Might have a local supplier or online?? Many times items like this are standard units, as opposed to specially manufactured for a single application, because it ends up being MUCH less expensive for the manufacturer. [ie., Sunstrand] Get exact dimensions, also refer to the application it was used in. Maybe ask for a "free sample" at Spirolox® Retaining Rings ? wink, wink.
:cubwinker:
Even if they don't work with consumer-level purchases, they may offer assistance finding a sub-supplier who does. Can't hurt to ask.

Thanks rfunk, from what I can tell its a standard 1" spiral snap ring. I will check with Smalley.com Thanks

The spiral snap ring at McMaster-Carr. The two different o-rings fro ACE Seal.
