Funny This is gonna get out of control. 33 years ago I bought my house. The owner of the house. Said Steve you get the tractor. Cub Cadet. When i moved in. No tractor. Then month later i look behind my house. And low and behold my new neighbor driving the tractor. Hah. I was bitter. But oh well. I’ll get over it. Now 33 years later. I asked his wife. Hey does your husband still have that tractor. ( He has not used it in 15 years) She said that ol tractor is in the shed i think. And i asked her to talk to the husband to see if he wants to let it go. Today i talked to him. He said it’s yours. come take it. I asked if motor was fine. He said yes. But he said he gave up on it. So. I’ll be towing home a Cub Cadet. I think (149) But not sure. With the John Deere 455. I’m excited. Can’t wait. Hope it’s not a night mare when i see it. I’ll post pics. Fingers crossed.
So this might get out of control. Collection in the near future. lol

David That thought passed my mind. But then thought paint delaminates. From that metal. I may put paint stripper on it. And remove what i can. But i’m sure people have grease and grass. on theirs. You know people who never cleaned their tractor. But thanks i’ll take care of it. Good advice

my cub cadet white looks creamy or is it to be white white. I like your white. my fins got painted all so. didn't know about that, makes sense. I never painted it though. this is my first time with cub cadets. I have the big red ones { Ih tractors }. thanks for all your knowledge .i will send pics when I figure out this technology. p.s. all hydro's work better with Hy-Tran, witch takes out the moisture out of the system.

I’m very lucky to get my hands on this fine piece of equipment. Lil disassembly today degreasing and power washing. Ordered new “ Koehler carb for the K321. Gas tank seems clean. New fuel line and filter and plug. Also just bought a battery (Good one) So here we go. Will post pics as I go along. Lots of Questions.
This looks to be a great project with a good back story on how you came to own it. The 1450 is the tractor I wished I could buy many years ago when they were new. Like many others, I couldn't afford one. Keep up the good work on this one. I am looking forward to seeing ho w it comes out.

Hey Steven - looks like things are coming along quite nicely. Someone else mentioned about the paint on the hydro pump. That's a real no-no and glad to hear you were going to clean it off. Hope it doesn't mess other things up, but I wouldn't worry about it to much if it does since that area is all enclosed.

However, I did wonder if you had a good look at the Trunion parts on the side of the hydro pump. Hope yours may have already been repaired. Have a look at FAQ #14 and #33 for details on how the trunion slot should look.

And another thing - all IH Hydro tractors develop this habit of "marking their spot". IH used the "infamous cork gasket" to mount the aluminum hydro pump to the cast iron rearend and it eventually starts to drip/leak. You've got everything cleaned up and painted so nice I really hate to think you have to jump in and make the repair. The new gasket available now is a neophreme type material that works really good. FAQ #33a and #33b will give you the details you'll need. The gasket costs about $6 last I checked a few years ago. Since you have the tractor mostly disassembled and fenders removed it wouldn't be that hard to replace the gasket. There is no way to tell if you have the original cork or the new replacement until you remove the hydro pump and see.

I also wondered if you did anything about any slop in your front axle. Typically the axle channel has spread open and the axle will develop a back/forth slop as it wears on the big mounting center pin. It's another fairly easy fix now that you have most things apart. FAQ #3 and #80 will help you.

And finally, just wanted to provide a little info about your wonderful K321AQS 14hp Kohler K-series Cast Iron engine. You may have already realized this or may not have even thought or heard of this issue. Kohler built the original 14hp and 16hp engines (and some 12hp) with balance gears to help reduce the vibration of the single cylinder. The balance gears were held in place with a spring clip and developed a habit of coming loose, bouncing around inside the case and eventually putting a window in the side of the block. Kohler actually stopped installing the balance gears about mid-production of the Quiet Line series (roughly 1976 or '77). The good news is I can tell your engine has the dipstick mounted thru a hole in the top of the cast iron block. That means you do NOT have balance gears. The earlier engines in the Quiet Line series used a shoulder mount for the dipstick thru a hole in the side of the cast iron block. Just wanted you to have this little tidbit of info.

Can't wait to see your tractor when you're done.

As far as the painted PTO. Thanks for the heads up. I will carefully strip off with Aircraft stripper. When it wrinkles i’ll dump warm bucket of water on it to neutralize.

Steven - I don't think anyone said something about a painted PTO. Did you mean to say the Hydro Pump which is aluminum with fins in the casting to help dissipate the heat? There should also be a plastic fan on the driveshaft that provides air flow to help cool the pump.

WP. If I remember correctly, it stands for West Pullman, the location where IH produced bolts.
