Neal, It should be a close nipple that you can screw out of the tank. Ed, I just protect the crankpin by covering the Rod Studs with plastic caps. You mentioned bolts, in which case you just push the rod on and install the cap and bolts. Make sure you have lots of oil or assembly lube on the...

    Tractor shows

Re: CAMA show this weekend in Kent Ct.. Parking will be on the lower level field and a bus will shuttle up to the main area, unless you want to walk or ride your tractor up. I'll be there with my 60 Bathtub Rider if anyone wants to chew the fat on Saturday. Kenny

Myron, Anthony, Got the 25-757-19S kit last night. It was perfect! I still had to file a chamfer on the edge of the bushing to clear the idle speed screw threads but it, combined with the new shaft(which comes with a new top piece already peened on)makes the carb feel like new. I recommend...

Anthony, What diameter is the shaft in the kit?

Myron, Anthony, The carb I have has the Counterbore, so hopefully the kit Scott Madson is sending me will work. Only concern I had was the idle speed screw threads break into the counterbore, I may have to chamfer the side of the bushing to get it in, if it isn't already chamfered. The shaft...

Myron, The shaft is definitely smaller in diameter on the 8 hp carb. I called Scott Madson and he confirmed and told me there are 2 throttle shaft kits for the 8 hp carb, but he can only get one, of which he will ship me this week. I will post the Kohler/Cub numbers when I get it. Kenny

Roland,Myron, Is there a throttle shaft bushing for the 8 hp carbs like there is for the 10 through 16's? The 10-16 bushing has an ID that's too big. I have an 8hp that won't throttle up easily and if you feather it to throtttle up it will die when you put a load on it. Runs good for 1/2 hour...

David, Easier with the motor out but if you want to keep it in, remove the heat shield and muffler so it can slide forward enough. The crank on a 12 is lighter, may vibrate too much but will work. The head can be clearanced for the larger valve but don't overdo it and lose too much compression...

Ben, My 1000 bought from original owner has the entire engine satin Black. I have found that J.D. Blitz Black is almost an exact match.

Bob M., Put in an H10C or Autolite 216. The J8C Plug has caused head failures due to blown out plugs when used in 10 hp and up K Series. The reach is different and so is the heat range. Try a correct plug first.

Matt, As long as the oil hole was on the camshaft side you should be ok as far as oiling the crank. Were the cam and crank endplays excessive? I set mine at the min. knowing they will get larger with wear. Kenny

Matt, that 128 looks sweet; with a spring assist, 3 point, and Ags, you're ready for the next Plow Day!

Scott T., At .035 to .040, that motor would be so far timed in advance it would spit and bark out the carb while cranking over. Sounds like the flywheel key may be sheared slightly. You looking at the right mark? All my K Series like .017-.018, even though .020 is the spec. Kenny

Dennis, All the NOS blocks I've seen look like they have machined valve seats, cut with a carbide cutter, similar to the Neway that I use. Can't confirm this, maybe Don can. I grind my valves with a 1940's Van Norman VALVO grinder. It doesn't look like much but is cuts sweet. I put 3 angles on...
