Harry-my engine is a rebuild 20 over a few years ago, but only has approx. 30 hours on it. Does not smoke purse any oil. I did get some feeler gauges and will tackle that next. Thanks for all your help so far.- mgerecke

Harry-I messed around with the 149 starting issues for a few hours today and accomplished nothing. First I thought the carb was getting clogged because there is not an inline filter. I seem to remember that there are 2 different settings for the carburetor that I dug up from before. If you go to the "FAQ'S" page, it says the the screws should be 3 1/2 on the high side and 2 1/2 on the idle. That is pretty close to mine. Harry-I got it running again!! When I started, the S was slightly higher than the center of the hole. When I finished, I did not see your post yet and I centered the S in the hole. Harry-I am out in the Cub garage working on my timing. Now I can't find the S in the sight hole!! So it does not run right now. Waiting for my battery to charge up before I do anymore on it. Quick question on my 149. Sometimes when you are starting it cold, and you have pulled out the choke and pushed it back in while cranking it backfires. I have a 1250 that has a leaking hydro unit. It is not the common gasket leak between the hydro unit and the rear axle, it is the case leaking. Are all the ported units the same? I just picked up a restored 149 with the original K321 in it that has been rebuilt with probably 20 hours on it. But it has been done 5 years ago. The problem is it is hard to start.
