I was just cutting my grass and this happened…

WOW! What a score for $300. I would tell the wife it's an investment as it's worth way more than $300 once you get it all cleaned up and looking good. The decks and the plow might take a little effort to sort out and repaint.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think Craftsman tools were made by a variety of manufacturers over the years, including New Britain, Moore Drop Forging, Stanley and Easco Hand Tools.

It's a sad story of no foresight, mismanagement and debt. It's easy in hindsight to see they were way too late to adopt an online store site and keep with the times. Personally, I think they should have let go of everything but the Craftsman tool line, the Kenmore appliance division and their...

Cub Cadet 1450 Drive line question

I believe the purpose of that steel ball is to make sure there is perfect alignment of the ends of the two shafts. This would eliminate or reduce vibration from misalignment which will lead to premature bearing failure of the hydrostatic pump as there are centered matching dimples in the end of...

No worries. When the cheap tools break or wear out, they are letting you know you need better tools. I already had a full set of 300 or more pieces of Craftsman's for over 30 years, but when I stopped at a yard sale a few years ago and the lady said $25 for the toolbox and tools, I added...

If you've got the room, it's always good to have a "back-up plan" in case your ZT mower is out for repairs and the grass grows fast! Hey, it's no ZT, but it'll get the job done if need arises.

Whellll, let's assume ( uh-oh, I've heard that word can make an "AS*-out-of-U-and-Me") that Phillip actually DOES have a starter, but only hears the solenoid closing when attempting to start his machine. 1) Battery fully charged?, check. 2) All power connections to the battery, solenoid and...

Yikes ! Is it a coincidence he has images of a coupling on his site ?

If there is no core charge on the "old" batteries, there is nothing for you to lose by attempting to repair them yourself. Once opened, indentify the style of cells within the case and divide the number of cells versus the total rated voltage of the pack. Search online for replacement individual...

    New member looking for parts

Whoa! Let's all just calm down and rewind for a minute. This member, Harry, came here looking for a solution to a problem that he has with his mower. Yes, electrics aren't our main interest here, but between all of us, there is a lot of knowledge and experience. I'm a union electrical...

I would look at the purchase "contract" & paper-work / manual and review the warranty. Don't the batteries have a separate 3 year warranty and the rest 5 years? I know before I gave up and accepted the full refund offer, I would get in touch with corporate HQ. They have the power to TELL the...

    hydro trans

I could be wrong, but there might be an assembly behind the dashboard that has a spring-loaded "friction disk" to help stop the hydro-lever from creeping out of the set position. Maybe there is an adjuster nut to vary the tension?

Parts Wanted Cub Cadet 56 Volt Battery Needed

I've seen the ads for yard tools by a company called EGO power. They have Zero turn mowers, push and self propelled mowers, chainsaws, blowers, string trimmers, etc, They all take the same 56 volt removable Li battery packs which makes total sense to me. The bigger riders hold 6 or more battery...

Parts Wanted Cub Cadet 56 Volt Battery Needed

$1,000 + for the batteries of a lawn mower? That'll buy a lot of gas, even at $5/gal. I suppose it could be worse, the mower could have been made by Tesla. A friend of mine had to get his battery pack replaced on his 1st gen Tesla, battery pack was $25,000 + labor. (Sorry, out of warranty)

hello my name is cole rymer

When I was a kid, my neighbor got a new '63 GT hawk he ordered with the R3 engine upgrade. I was 9yo. He gave his wife his prior '57golden hawk, lucky lady! They sold the silver hawk he had previously passed down to her. They kept those cars until after I moved away in 1985. I guess they...

    Thought I was done

Mac, I just knew you would be able to get it squared away. The extra effort is worth it. Seals last longest on really smooth shiny surfaces. Pistons/rings do best with cross-hatched surfaces, seals not so much.

    Thought I was done

Mac, You didn't mention the grit of the abrasive used, but from what you say there is a worn spot where the seal lips run. If it's not too deep and is free of rough spots or burrs then the seal should be able to do its job OK. If there were any burrs on the shaft that the seal has to slide...

    Thought I was done

Usually, if there's any question about the sealing surface of a shaft, I will use a strip of #600 grit wet/dry "Triamite"(sp?) paper and highly polish the surface in question with a half-wrap buffing motion like when you polish shoes. Yeah, it takes some time to do, but if done correctly, I've...
