    Not sure about out your way but here in New England alcohol was added to lower the freeze point. Even draining the water never removed all of it so alcohol would be added and then if needed the system drained. What water that remained would hopefully not create enough force to cause damage.

    Yes, do the cleanup first, then prep the contact surfaces for use. Use some tape to protect your hard work while painting.

    Blast it all, clean any residuals, sand it on a sheet of glass, metal plate, granite counter top if you dare! LOL.. then paint as or if desired. And I am in the South Coastal area of Mass. near New Bedford.

    I finally finished my Highly modified 122 Loader With lots of help from my son at his fab shop. She works pretty well!

    I'd say the upright for the hoist is the fluid resevoir. And what you're calling a bubble level is really the fluid level.
