I'm starting to remove the wheel weights on my 1650 Quietline and, having never done this before, thought it best to ask if there's a particular method I should use short of prying or hammering. Have removed the attaching bolts but the weight is still firmly stuck to the wheel. I tried threading a threads-all through the weight's center hole so as to bear on the axle but the rod wouldn't go much more than an inch or so. Dirty threads?

got a mallet? i’d do some light tapping to see what frees up. might be some grime in between the weight & wheel, essentially shimming it into place.
any space for a skinny punch to reach in behind the weight to tap it on the backside?

Drive the bolts out that are put in backwards. 👍
 
There are no longer any bolts holding it on per the photo. I just tried using a drift pin/2lb. ball pean hammer from the back side via the carriage bolt holes. The weight didn't budge. Also, reinserted the 1/2 X 24" threads-all into the weight's center hole and using a heavy sleeve on the rod tried to use it as a slide hammer but to no effect.
Hmm.
Not much evidence of rust but apparently that, along with Michigan sand/grit, is the culprit. WD40 soak for a while and try again.

Per the photo as you call it. I may be old and senile, but I know a bolt when I see one!

I'm old too but I can assure you that the retaining nuts and washers aren't there (only the witness marks remain) and the bolts were only flopping around behind the weight. Also, after the photo, I removed those loose bolts in order to access the square opening in the back of the wheel with the drift punch. I wish it were that simple, alas.

Grab a block of wood and something along these lines and pry those suckers out and off. 👍
54 pound jaun dear weights are tight too and this is what I use.

CHARLIE - I hope ALL Jaun Deare weights aren't too big around and a press fit into the wheels. SON bought a set of them to put on the #70 I refurbished for him that I have to remove to mount the new Firestone 6-12 23 degree lugged tires on it. He spent more on one set of weights than I've spent on Cub Cadet weights of ALL kinds combined, including my 12 10# MWSC suitcase weights on the 982.
If I had weights THAT tight I'd grind the OD down, and touch-up the paint before they went back on.
