I will be taking a look at these tractors, specifically the CCs, in the next few days. I don’t know anything about them and very little about Cub Cadets in general. The far two seem to be ‘67-‘69 vintage, but I’m not sure about the third from the end. If anyone can spot anything to give me more information about them it would be appreciated.

Also, I’m pretty handy mechanically, but is there anything specific I should watch out for including any “they’ve been sitting forever” issues that might not be readily apparent to the less familiar?

I’m looking for a project for my 10 year old son and myself. He wants it to be a complete rebuild and restore, but something that he’ll get to ride sooner than that would keep him excited.

Thanks

Some don't even have tires! They have not been particularly well cared for, so get them as cheap as possible. They will need all new wiring, tires, seats, cosmetics, maintenance items, and so on and so forth.

Billy,Looks like 5 yrs of projects..I'm talking cubs here....My opinion..no.1 are spark plugs in and carbs on,If either is missing there is a great possibility of internal damage to rings/pistons..If an engine doesn't turn over I would count it as a zero(the engine). I can't tell from pics if they are hydros or sticks. but both rearends seem to hold up well...Sticks ;the clutch is an issue to look at..linkage on hydros may be set up....These are all about 50 yrs old so removing any bolts becomes an issue to avoid breaking them off...All of them show starter/gen which are very expensive new and can be tested off the machine but have value....I recently bought a machine(blown engine) just for the s/g ...I don't see any decks in pics or blades, any available??In my area they would be worth about $50. scrap price for the machine so there is a locked in value....Estimates of repair Not possible to guess...The 3rd one in could be a 108 or 128 based on hood shape..They all have serial nos and be dated by that...There is a large amount of info on this site...The JD 316 is a popular mod...The pwr king is quite unique in it's size,no knowledge....Buy the cubs and go for it...

How big of a basket do you have?
Looks like they all may very well fall into that category.
The 2 furthest away in the picture are NF's, and would be, (sorry Harry!), my choice IF they are GD's
The other looks to be a 1X8/9 series and would be my choice IF it were a GD.ie 108/128
OR IF It were a 169 which I seriously doubt.

One looks like a 1x6, 1x7 missing the steering wheel, the other 1x5,1x4, the wide frame has a hydro lift 149, but the muffler is not one for a 169. In Texas everything is big, and so will be the prices...

After looking again on my desktop, it appears the hood decal on the 1X8/9 has a darker stripe on it. Maybe a 169? The 10 hp models had a green pin stripe, and the 12 hp models had a red pin stripe. It also has headlights, as well as the one in the middle with the missing steering wheel.
The last two appear to be the same style, so they may have enough parts to make one good one. The last one with the scissor jack on the hood has a hood pointer, which is on backwards! :errrr:
Would that be the top of a rear tiller sticking up on the one in the middle? If so, there may be a creeper gear on it!

For crying out loud Billy, hurry up and go look at them before they get gone! :roflol:And take a big trailer!

What I see..... maybe...

The farthest 2 are 1x4/5. The stripes do look blue... no black like on the 1x6/7 with the same grille..

Then a blue stripe wideframe, which would be a 149/169, more than likely a 149, since there were a bunch more of those made... and as mentioned above, that is not a 169 muffler..

Then what looks like a pile of parts. I see a 105/125 hood since you can make out the hydrostatic in the blue stripe, the lower grille housing for a quietline. But the frame all that is sitting on, doesn't look like Cub frame.and the engine looks like it is "sideways" vs what a cub would have, it looks like the crank is across the frame, not down the frame.

Then a 316 deere.... ok for a deere.....

Then a Ford... which is just a Jacobson with blue paint... again an ok machine

The closest looks like an old Power King... which are decent machine... well built....

My opinion of what I see in those pictures... there are only 2 that would interest me.. the wideframe (149?) and the Power King......

Scott,
You wouldn't want the last two Z shaped ones with a tiller on the back, and maybe a creeper? :errrr:

The Powerking is the only one in the line worth messin with IMO. 👍

The red one is a Jim Dandy Economy tractor. With double clutching a fixture they are real farm machines, think Farmall. Sold mine 'cause couldn't fine a mower to add.

In all honesty, no. But that is my opinion. I am a high horsepower, wideframe guy. Dad and I have 10 all together (or maybe 12, I don't remember), but ALL of them are 149,14/1650's,782's. In the 45 years of owing cubs, we have had 3 narrow frames. Dad's 1st one in 76 or 77 was a 105, that was quickly replaced by the 149, because the tiller is heavy... LOL. We had a 124 in the mid 80's that we only used to mow and it truly tried to blow up in my face (sediment bowl started leaking while I was mowing, I made a turn to the left and happened to notice the fire, I hit the key and bailed off the back, less than 30 seconds later, a fireball came out from under the hood) we put it back together, bit it was never the same and friend of mine bought it to turn it into a puller. The last one was a 127 that I got as a package deal with one of my 1650's, hydro angle blade, QA42A, and a bunch of other stuff. It never ran and I never had time to look at it. It ended up being sold to Dad's neighbor Jason (Yes, the same one Charlie) and he ended up selling it. Last I knew it was running again.

Then I have my 2020 ULTMA ZT1 54" Cub ZTR.... but it is high horsepower and a hydro..... LOL

Charlie,
I know why you would only be interested in the Power King. You already have a boat load of them yellow and white ones! :aaaa_tongue::roflol:

If it was me,I would take a ratchet and socket,I can't get to my 125 to tell you the size to turn the sg. to see if either of the last two cc in the line up turned over.If they were both gear or both hydro,I would go awful darn cheap on the pair.Their will be better looking, better mechanical cubs if you be a bit more patience

Well we went for a drive. A beautiful day (sunshine and comfortable) and beautiful drive (fields of bluebonnets and indian paintbrushes-my favorite).

We met Tom a nice enough guy, but, and I know there will be disappointment, he wouldn’t allow pictures to be taken unless we were putting down a deposit.

The CCs were pretty crusty. From the far end of the picture they were a 104, a 125, and a 149. The nearest CC hood is sitting on a Sears Suburban. He also had another 149 and 125, one of the quiet line models, and one or two more I can’t recall.

Any optional parts have been removed and sold. Other than that most seem pretty complete. He’s asking $600 for the 149 pictured and $450 for the 104. Mower decks are $100.

So while maybe some wiggle room on price it’s not going wiggle enough given their condition. CCs are a little rare it seems here in Texas, but I believe we will wait and see what turns up.

I know I should have at least taken pictures of the flowers for you all, sorry.
