Trunion Help please....

CC 782....Just getting ready to weld a spacer to correct the wear as outlined in many posts here.

Question:
Is there supposed to be space between the big spring and the trunion slot?

I have .150" here

I don't believe so. Here are some dimensions of how it should be.

That is exactly what I have. I found these dimensions yesterday and confirmed to them. But the "big" spring is short. The small internal spring seems fine.

That appears to be a new spring, perhaps you got a bad one. I don't have one that I can measure, (actually I might, I will have to go look...) Hopefully someone here has the dimensions handy.

That is a well cleaned up old spring. Not sure if it has ever been replaced.

The spring measures 0.959 Just a hair over 15/16"

I can see in the blue circled area that your shy of getting it square. You can also see the angle of the pin which will cause problems, just sayin. You might want to recheck your measurements.

The angle of that pin on the right concerns me a little.

Once I moved it back and forth a few times it settled square. It certainly moves smooth now....Also shimmed the pivot with two washers equaling .018"

BTW, there is a little "tit" in the center of the two bobbins from the machining process that will tilt the bobbins before they settle down. I was going to grind them off but didn't know if they were needed. Once I got it all back together it is clear I should have removed them.

I may as well post this anyway. Here's a used one in my old 125 this is measuring the guide pins as well, which are nearly out to the end of the worn slot.

BTW...Just for comparison...My total length is 1.233

The Verdict......Well, It's better....But not perfect. Still a bit jerky but better than before. And now when I hit the brake in FORWARD, it returns perfectly to neutral. but braking from reverse it still creeps backwards.

If there is a fix for this it will have to wait until another day.

Sleeve hitch install tomorrow.....
