Gary,
I’m not into hanging things on walls (too good a chance I will bump into it and knock it off). I just want it to look like it did my whole life, and I’ll probably just set it inside my garage like he always did in his. But I do want it serviceable. Thank you for the oil-soaking tip.

that's quite the shipping fee! Apparently it's that "dimensional weight" thing they speak of...:censored2:

I didn’t look at shipping fees.

i have worn out two Lowe’s handles on my double bit ax, and I doubt I will buy another handle there. They just don’t sell handles like Central Hardware did.

I just thought that orange and white handle would work because it resembled the old one enough to fool this old mind. If I get a handle somewhere else, I will have to make that one resemble the old one with paintwork.

Got my z out this weekend, FINALLY! Hopefully in two weeks I'll be able to get up to my other property and play with my Ducati's! My wife surprised me this weekend and bought me a season pass at road America for track days. So I better get busy lock wiring any nut and bolt on my Panigale, so that I can play with that little sweet heart in her natural habitat! But for now, the street and my z scratched an itch that has been burning for about 2 months!

I have a customer in the shadow of Road America. It is very cool to walk outside, and hear them practicing/testing. Not so good finding a hotel nearby...

Have fun Jay!

I'm pretty pumped about it. The pass comes with 3 days instruction from team yamaha riders. That's what I'm the most excited about, actually learning how to be fast, instead of just twisting the throttle and holding on!

Jay, I could teach you how to slow putt on a 45 yr old Harley:cubwinker:
Believe it or not, my buddy just stopped in last night for me to look at his cvo soft tail with all the yelling seagull accessories on it. He made me ride it, so I made him ride my z, and my wife followed on her Vulcan. He almost looped my z right out of the driveway!😅 We switched up bikes after a few miles, my wife road his cvo, and he threw a leg over her Vulcan, and I straddled my beloved Z, and then we went back to my house. He said the Vulcan has more power and handled better than his Harley, and was impressed with it, until I informed him it's only a stock 650! Then he was a tad upset! I love all bikes, my absolute favourite are the 60's brit bikes. Nortons, BSA's, and Triumphs make my pulse quicken! The original Bonneville t120 might be the sexiest machine in existence! I had a few Harleys in past years, a 77 sportster, a 53 pan, and a 02 soft tail. They are fun to beat around the neighborhood for sure!

Jay, as young men are prone to stupidity and no view of the future.Recently married things getting tight I sold my 37 knucklehead...Since were 2 Yam 650's ( excellent machines) then along came a 77 after divorce and a personal promise this ones gonna stay for a long time..I've had it 44 yrs. the first yr of the "lowrider" and still putts just fine...stay safe... I like the Triumphs but never owned one..

You have definitely fulfilled your promise to yourself! You need to post a pic of that, those shovels were beautiful!
My dad saved up for a few years and traded his kawi 900 for a used shovel head, back in the late 80's. I was just a little shaver then, and I don't remember anything about it except for him telling me the story of how I cried when the guy shook hands and took dad's kawi. He said I wouldn't even ride on his Harley that first summer he had it. My mom tells me a story of when my dad would take me for a ride when I was 4-5 years old on his kawi, I would sit in front of him on the tank basically, and he would crack the throttle and I would laugh and scream "faster dad! FASTER!" She says I've been a speed junky ever since, which explains my traffic violations! 😆 I eventually warmed up to his Harley, and she said it would be an every evening ritual of getting my butt swatted for being on the back seat of his shovel when he got home from work as I was waiting for a ride! As we weren't allowed to be on his bike when he wasn't home, but my stubbornness eventually got me my bike fix for the night, sore ass included free of charge! 🤣
However, sadly, we are back to snow today, they are calling for 3-5 inches today. It's kinda odd riding my bike yesterday, and then having to blow snow today. Such is the life I've chosen...

Jay, we've been bouncing down here ..2 days in 80 then 20 tonight. My girls started riding on my first 650 tank ,none of them took to it growing up...I lost a lot of pics in a computer switch a few yrs back.I'll have to get more of my low rider,it's in a buddies big garage for the winter...love your stories...

Last bike I rode was my brother's Triumph Speed Triple probably 10 years ago. I got back and he asked how I liked it. I said "too much and I'll never ride it again ".
I know me, sooner or later I'd end up living impaired...so now I'm setting my sights on a nice big pontoon boat, complete with cooler and grill. 👍😎👍

Riding "scooters"(us old guys call them that) is an educational process. You learn: some weather is not your friend, loose sand on the road can put you down, road animals can kill you(deer, coons) ,a blown tire can kill you, most car drivers don't see you, some car drivers will run you off the road intentionally, drinking and riding is never good, riding on a real hot day is like riding in a blast furnace, riding on a chilly day helps you to understand chill factor theory, maintenance is important a loose chain can cause a major malfunction, t-boning a car is not fun, your boots can fill with water in the rain and after a rain there is usually sand washed onto roads,a bee inside a helmet can cause a panic...been there done all of that but a slow ride in the country in the fall is pure pleasure....
