I have been reading on removing a stuck steering wheel, as mine seems to be permanently seized to the shaft of my 126. I have a bearing separator kit would that (in theory) be able to do the job without ruining the bearings?

Upgrade NowMe personally would worry about the steering wheel more than the bearing. That is what I am normally worried about breaking.I have been reading on removing a stuck steering wheel, as mine seems to be permanently seized to the shaft of my 126. Either way here will work every time.I have been reading on removing a stuck steering wheel, as mine seems to be permanently seized to the shaft of my 126. I have a bearing separator kit would that (in theory) be able to do the job without ruining the bearings?
Having removed 100's of steering wheels, this works.Me personally would worry about the steering wheel more than the bearing. That is what I am normally worried about breaking.
Make up your own steering wheel puller, that is the safest.
All it has to do is stay on well enough to keep the centering feature on the puller from splitting the end of the shaft.Matt, he's saying the threads are all bunged up on the end of the shaft
'Permanently seized' is a good description. On my CC102 (circa 1967) the wheel would not come off. Rather than pull the whole unit off the tractor I used my saber saw to slice into the hub THREE (careful not to bother threads) times to get the steering wheel off. There was still a piece of hub left that had to be chiseled off, no kidding. There was no rust, that piece of hub was bonded to the shaft....no wonder the wheel would not come off. If you want to talk I'm glad to call you. Cheers, JackI have been reading on removing a stuck steering wheel, as mine seems to be permanently seized to the shaft of my 126. In these posts there's one from Lewis...'cut it off.' In 1967, IH may have added something that bonded wheel to shaft; sitting on tractor the part I chiseled off was at 5 o'clock. The gear puller shown here would have broken. A $150 air hammer may work but I'm not buying something to use once. Again, cut it off, your saber saw will sit easily in the steering wheel. Jamocha, Did you see this post? This will work every time. No such thing as a permanently seized steering wheel unless it's been sitting under water.. in the ocean
. If you don't have an air hammer a medium sized hammer may work, but you may need help then.
echoing dave’s question: why remove the steering wheel? what is the objective?
